Biography

The Ladybug Transistor story begins in Brooklyn, NY during the mid-1990s. Their debut album, Marlborough Farms (1995 – Sit N Spin), named after the band's fabled Victorian Flatbush headquarters and studio, was a recording project based around founding member Gary Olson's collaborations with friends. They soon caught the attention of Merge Records who released Beverley Atonale in 1997. It was… Read more in Amazon's Ladybug Transistor Store

Editorial Reviews

Ladybug Transistor's fourth album is the band's first to be recorded outside its own Marlborough Farms studio. They packed up and split to Arizona of all places to work with Calexico producer Craig Schumacher. Their delicate, Baroque, citified chamber pop sound remains fully intact; the only trace of the desert is the occasional pedal steel guitar. The band seems to have shaken off the doldrums that lightly plagued its previous record, 2001's disappointing Argyle Heir, coming up with a killer batch of songs that are catchy and involving. -All Music Guide

4.0 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack for the fall, October 9, 2003
This review is from: Ladybug Transistor (Audio CD)
This is the first Ladybug Transistor album that I have heard, so I can't compare it with any earlier releases. With that said, I think it's good. Track 5 "Choking on Air" is by far my favorite song off this album. Its a very visual song (if that makes any sense) but I think you have to hear it to understand.

If you are not familiar with this band, I would compare it to Belle & Sebastian's newest record "Dear Catastrophe Waitress" - both have a variety of singers (both male and female) with that sunny 70's AM rock feel. I really love Sasha Bell's voice, so I'm also planning on getting Essex Green's "Long Goodbye" to hear her contributions to that cd.

I rated this CD 4 stars out of 5 because I enjoy it and it definately has many strong songs, but there are a few songs that I'm not entirely fond of. Still, 4 out of 5 is good!

Great band, great athmosphere, this is for sure an album that you can't miss if you are an indie music lover! The mosaic of delicate sounds, deep voice and excellent strings background make this album more better than Belle and Sebastian last record.
The Ladybug athmosphere remind me the black and white french movies from the 60s. Fantastic!!!!!
