5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant collection, March 28, 2004
This review is from: The Ladykillers (Audio CD)
It is apparent the previous reviewer has neither seen the movie (which features a bountiful collection of gospel music) nor heard the soundtrack, but is simply trying to push a personal cause. This CD has instant appeal and longevity.

If you took a chance with the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack and loved it you should do the same here. Not because the type of music is similar (no bluegrass to be found), but because it (like O Brother) is a compilation put together by T-Bone Burnett.

Unlike the O Brother soundtrack, this features many upbeat songs by artists from the 1930s to today (including a great Nappy Roots song, "Trouble In The World," that will be coming soon to a radio near you). I recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, March 28, 2004

This review is from: The Ladykillers (Audio CD)
I left the theater vowing to get the soundtrack, because it's one of the best I've ever heard. And this is the first movie soundtrack I've ever wanted! The music was integral to my enjoyment of the film, and truly helped carry along the spirit of the movie from beginning to end. Anyone who loves old-time gospel music will enjoy this spirited sountrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars constantly on my player right now, October 25, 2004

You know, I didn't really "get" the Coen brother's version of what I consider a classic black comedy film. But I'm glad they did it if for no other reason than it produced this exceptional soundtrack. I can listen to it while sitting at my computer at work and pretty soon I'm swept away to my childhood and the little white church where I was baptised. My toes are tapping and my day is better. The rap songs on it are every bit as heartfelt as the roof rattling gospels. I recommend it to any fan of soul, blues, gospel or Americana. In fact I really dig the mix of old and new on this disc.
