4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good if you don't have any other 5 star books to read
Scott has been writing a series of well-told, entertaining books centering on hidden treasure protected by the Scottish descendants of the Knights Templar. This one is no exception. However, these characters can be frustrating. Sorcha, her heroine, is one of those young women you may or may not like. She's spunky and daring, but can also be seen to be immature. Hugo, her...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Fair Historical Read, November 25, 2006
Lady Sorcha Macleod is attending her sister's wedding when the bride is abducted by a masked rider. She believes it is Sir Hugo Robison a Scottish Knight Templar who she believes is smitten with her sister who has taken her for himself. She along with everyone else is stunned when Hugo does arrive and it is understood he did not take the bride. Now together Sorcha and Hugo race to rescue Adela. The forced intimacy of their rescue attempt makes Hugo very aware of the spirit and beauty of Sorcha. He should be with the one sister but he wants Sorcha. Neither one of them realize that they are pawns in a much bigger plot and eventually they will have to face the passion that burns between them.

Ms. Scott's story has a great deal of potential and will probably satisfy long time fans that have started this series at the beginning. As a stand alone effort this is a bit shaky although it still entertains. Sorcha and Hugo are fair protagonists and their adventure includes Sidony and Sir Michael making this a family affair. Ms. Scott has filled the pages with wonderful historic details which adds to the story telling. Scotland will jump off the pages for the reader. Sorcha is a strong heroine and really came alive on the pages. Hugo is truly a wonderful knight. The secondary storyline of Adela with her captor at times threatened to overrun the romance making it a bit heavy at times. Still this was a fine historical romance. For CK2S Kwips and Kritiques

Hugo, her hero, is also slightly frustrating because he is a bit of a male chauvinist, and therefore, high-handed in his treatment of Sorcha. Needless to say, they fight constantly. Scott included these characters in previous books, so she was bound by character traits and personalities she had already given them. These two weren't my favorite. But, this series of books is pretty riveting. Adela, the next sister in line to be given a story, will be more interesting and likeable, I'm certain.

LADY'S CHOICE by Amanda Scott
August 26, 2006

Amazon rating 4/5

"This continues a series by Amanda Scott in 1300s Scotland, following the Macleod family. Lady's Choice, focuses on the second to youngest daughter, Lady Sorcha Macleod. Her older sister Adela has just been kidnapped by a man unknown to them during her wedding. While at first everyone believes the mystery man to be Hugo Robinson - the man Sorcha has been telling everyone is Adela's true love - wedding guests soon learn that the kidnapper is unknown to them. When Hugo appears after the wedding ceremony, with no knowledge of Adela, Sorcha is blamed for the kidnapping, since she attempted to get Hugo and Adela together, assuming they were in love. Her father is angry, and Sorcha decides to take it upon herself to rescue her sister.

Thus begins an adventure that involves Sorcha, her youngest sister Sidony, and eventually Sir Michael (married to pregnant sister Lady Isobel) and Hugo and their men, as they try to rescue Adela from Michael and Hugo's evil cousin Waldron. The story goes back and forth between Sorcha's adventures - including her budding romance with Hugo - and scenes that focus on Adela and her captor. What ensues with Adela and Waldron is very interesting, as she is conflicted, almost coming to a point where she subconsciously cares for him, thus confusing her rescuers. Has Adela decided to take Waldron's side, or is she merely bluffing and biding her time till Hugo and Sorcha rescue her?" -- Complete review at Bookloons - M. Lofton

Another epic read, LADY'S CHOICE continues the stories of the MacLeod sisters, and tells the tale of Sorcha and Hugo. There is one more novel in this series, which I am hoping to read when it is published. The author does a good job with her historical research and the reader will get a good feel of what it might have been like living back in the 1300's in old Scotland. Those who enjoy adventure with their romances, LADY'S CHOICE is the book to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars terrific fourteenth century romantic suspense, August 2, 2006
In 1380 in the Highlands, a masked man with associates rides amidst a wedding party and grabs the bride Adela Macleod before she can exchange "I do" with her much older groom Lord "Pompous" Ardelive Calum Tolmic. Her family is not concerned as everyone assumes Sir Hugh Robison romantically abducted Adela.

Over a week later, Adela's family finally meets Hugh who knows nothing about the kidnapping of Adela. Everyone becomes fretful especially Adela's sister Sorcha, who thought she "arranged" for Hugh to elope with her older sibling. As Sorcha and Hugh argue and worry over the fate of Adela, they fall in love, but the rescue from a fanatical Christian must come first.

LADY'S CHOICE, the sequel to LORD OF THE ISLES and HIGHLAND PRINCESS, is a terrific fourteenth century romantic suspense that contains two subplots that eventually tie together with an exhilarating climax that also sets up the next one in a high quality series. The well written prime story line follows the fighting between Sorcha and Hugh; the secondary subplot and more fascinating subplot involves Adela and her captivity as the Stockholm Syndrome takes hold (perhaps too quickly) with her being grateful towards her abusive kidnapper for little things. Amanda Scott is at the top of her game with this deep historical tale.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lady's Choice, January 6, 2007
On Lady Adela Macleod's wedding day, she is standing beside her bridegroom Ardelve when four horseman burst upon the ceremony. One of the masked villains grabs Adela and swiftly rides off with her.

One of Adela's sisters, Lady Sorcha, is convinced that Sir Hugo Robinson has kidnaped Adela. She believes that Adela and Hugo want to be together. Sorcha arrives at Hugo's home intent on seeing her sister but discovers that Hugo has not captured Adela. Sorcha is furious with Hugo because she thinks he lead Adela to believe that he cared for her. Hugo denies the allegations and is angry at being accused of such treachery.

Sorcha sets off with her sister Sidony to find Adela only to have Hugo easily track her down. Together they set off to find Adela. Along their journey, Hugo finds himself very attracted to Sorcha, but he has given his word to marry Adela to save her reputation. Sorcha is becoming increasingly less eager to see her sister marry Hugo as her feelings grow for him.

As the danger and mystery grow surrounding Adela's kidnaping, Sorcha and Hugo will have to put their feelings aside to save Adela and the treasure her captor truly seeks.

Lady's Choice is a good story. I enjoyed watching Sorcha's and Hugo's relationship progress. I like Sorcha's fiery personality and I found Hugo to be very charming. Adela's feelings toward her captor are intriguing as well. The story moves along slowly though. There tends to be more dialog than action. Therefore I found myself often eager for things to just move along. However, Lady's Choice has an intriguing plot with some great characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Historical Romance!, October 4, 2006
By
Adela has dutifully agreed to an arranged marriage with Baron Ardelve, a man twice her age. Just before taking her vows, the ceremony is disrupted by the thundering hooves of intruders on horses. As a masked bandit boldly sweeps up Adela, her family believes Sir Hugo Robison has had the audacity to take her for his own.

Adela's sister, Sorcha, hopes to find the couple at the inauguration of Ranald of the Isles, head of the MacDonald Clan. Sorcha's fiery temper gets the best of her when the truth is revealed that Adela has indeed been abducted, when she attacks Sir Hugo for encouraging her to think he cared for her sister.

When the evil man's plan is revealed to use Adela as a pawn to steal the fabled Templar Treasure, Sorcha takes it upon herself to save her sister and disappears into the highlands.

Sir Hugo must find Sorcha and Adela before the treacherous plot unfolds. In hot pursuit he discovers that Sorcha's passionate nature is irresistible as he finds himself captivated even though he has bound himself in honor to marry Adela.

Amanda's ability to write ongoing family saga's relating to some of her most beloved characters is just one of the appealing reasons why she is well read. I am looking forward to her next book, Knight's Treasure.

Armchair Interviews says: Amanda Scott has written another satisfying romance to complement her collection of intriguing romance novels.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was an okay read, October 4, 2006

The main character Sorcha (pronounced SOHR-uh, like Sarah) drove me nuts. Her immature and irresponsible behavior made me want to take her over my knee, which the hero Hugo threatened (but never did unfortunately). Her reckless behavior started the whole drama of the story (a crucial point), but her character never seemed to just grow up. Sorcha continued on with her rash actions, and she did not take into account the consequences of those actions on others and herself. The relationship between Sorcha and Hugo is completely implausible and it never based itself on a solid foundation.

Though I found the historical research woven fully through the story, I found the characters lacking... if you don't have anything better to read then this will do.
