Book Description

Lady Isabella Winton has waited four years to marry her fiancé, but each year Lord Alexander Fitzroy, Earl of Standford, a serving officer and a reformed rake, finds an excuse to delay the nuptials. This time, with the marriage set for the next month, he tells her he received an urgent message from his Colonel. He is needed in Belgium almost immediately. He warns her it may be dangerous for her to accompany him.
Isabella realizes he is bluffing, things would not change so suddenly. Despite Napoleon’s escape from Elba, Brussels is the centre of a social whirl. She looked forward to riding in the famous park off the Rue Royale; elaborate dinners and extravagant balls; so different from the quiet life in rural Sussex. Fearing Alex may have returned to his rakish ways and already installed a mistress, she insists on travelling with him.
Caught up in arrangements for a hurried wedding, Isabella is unaware Lord Everard Ladness, heir to a dukedom, is obsessed with her and will go to any lengths to possess her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good plots and great characters! January 23, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Lady Isabella, furious that her beau, Lord Alexander Fitzroy, was off to fight another conflict in Brussels, decrees that she will not have their wedding put off yet again. In fact, it will be moved forward and she will accompany him to the impending confrontation as his wife. Lord Winton, father of Isabella agrees to her demands for an earlier wedding and takes matters into his own hands to get the church to agree and make the arrangements for the ceremony. While at the dressmakers organizing her trousseau, Isabella meets up with her best friends who add to her excitement when they share the news that they will also be marrying in time to accompany their new spouses to Brussels. It's well known that the fighting takes second place to the socializing that the top military personnel enjoy. Therefore, the ladies need to purchase the prettiest articles for their forthcoming adventures. Their pleasure is soon diminished when Lord Verard Ladness, a rakehell who desires Isabella for his own, scares the poor girl her in her dressing room. She is ruined. Or so she believes - until Alex fights a duel for her honor. The last words from the crazed loser are," She's mine and I'll kill her before I let you have her." And so Isabella's life is set with a perilous shadow following her into her future. And this menace continues to turn up in the most unexpected places. I have to admit that my favorite character was Isabella. A spirited lass - one who had a mind of her own in a time when that wasn't acceptable - continued to surprise me with her exploits. Love scenes that'll make you sigh, good plots and great characters made this book an easy 5-stars.

Purchased this book for my wife, and ended up reading myself. It just grabbed me from the opening chapter, and was engrossed until the end. Isabella is pursued by the sinister lord Ladness (great name). Lord Fitzroy is a strong and charismatic character, I wont give too much of the plot away. Good solid book with plenty of suspense and intrigue, and well written. Waiting to buy my wife the next book from this author :-).

Will Alexander ever see his wife again? Will the be happy again and build their lives together?

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Well Done February 19, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm not sure where the negatives reviews came from for this book. One of the first things I loved about this book was that the author used language that fit the time period. I also loved that she wrote descriptions that allow you to become fully immersed in the story. In other words, Katy Walters knows how to show readers what's going on, rather than just telling them. I love that Isabella is such a strong character that isn't going to sit back and be forced to do things she doesn't want to do. If you enjoy regency romance, you're going to enjoy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read October 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the story, and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Isa has strong opinions on how woman are treated and stands her ground and won't be treated like a chattel.

The story is witty, I love the story involving third party characters and especially enjoyed the part about the ladies laughing at the trumpet, I won't spoil it for you, you will have to read the book to find :)

There is a bit of editing that needs doing Lord Burges is sometimes Bruges and his betrothed changes from Henrietta to Phillipa, Small mistakes but made me have to go back to see who was with who. Also wasn't to keen on how the epilogue ended, could have being a little more romance to it.

Hope the next book won't take to long in coming vey much looking forward to Vaughan and Henrietta's story.

As I was reading, it suddenly ended, only to find out it would be continued in the next story of the series. Unfortunately, not my cup of tea. Also not my cup of tea was the story line, all about Isabella and Alex, a young women bent on women's suffrage and her husband who is a staunch believer in "rules" set down by generation after generation. I'm not saying I am against equality for women and women's rights, but I don't agree with Isabella's overbearing stance of "my way or the highway" and violence, shin kicking and threatened face slapping. Standing up for your or someone else's rights is honorable, bullying to get your way is not, no matter the outcome. Think I will pass on the forthcoming stories.
