Book Description

“If you like suspense, you can’t go wrong with Lady’s Game.” --The Bullard Banner

A loud knock shook the office door. Denotta jerked around. A woman’s silhouette wavered through the textured glass.
“Come in.”
The door swung open.
“Price Denotta?”

The woman crossed the room in a graceful glide. Her voice sounded low and husky, not what he would have expected from the dark-haired five-foot-four petite woman. She was attractive in an Ivy League sort of way—a business woman—mid-forties—self-assured—wealthy.

“At your service.” He stood and reached across the desk to meet her extended hand in a firm shake. “Won’t you have a seat?”

She complied, her black stockings making a sexy shushing noise when she crossed her legs.
“How can I help you Ms....?”
“Stedman. My husband is trying to kill me.”

Detective Vincent Price Denotta's life changes when he meets Rachael Stedman, his first client. The beautiful, dynamic woman is afraid for her life.
Or so she says.
She hires Denotta to prove her husband is trying to kill her and asks Price to move into her East Texas mansion and spy on her husband.

Denotta declines. The woman is poison, but he finds himself drawn to her in spite of his better judgment. He knows the woman is hiding something, and when he tries to discover what that something might be, he’s taken on a wild ride of deception and murder, where nothing is as it seems.

Lady's Game is a roller coaster ride of twists, turns, blind alleys, and sudden drops.

The novella was first published as a serial novel in the Bullard Banner and Snap News Magazine, along with the sequel, Queen’s Pawn. This edition is only available on Kindle. The beautiful model gracing the cover is Amanda Myers Beasley.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, short, mystery thriller.... July 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this short read. Vincent Price Denotta is hired by a woman who believes that her husband is trying to kill her and finds himself framed for her murder. The story had a good flow and compelling characters and a large number of twists and turns for such a short read. I will be watching for future works by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars short but sweet April 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
i read it in about an hour. started great, wonderful voice. descriptions and settings were vivid. plot was good. i was as curious about the situation mr. denotta found himself in as he was. the only thing i found lacking was the ending~mr. denotta didn`t ferret out the truth himself. it was told to him. the writer did a great job and i look forward to more mysteries with these characters. After resting last night I amended my rating of this book. I really did enjoy it and the author deserves some credit for writing such a lovely detective novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars LIKE A FILM NOIR QUICK READ April 27, 2013
By Texanne
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Vincent Price Denotta is a P I who has a history of working with his special friend, Frank, a cop.

Price is hired by a woman to protect her from her husband who wants to kill her. He works on the case for several weeks and follows the husband around, trying to figure out what is happening.

There is no way for me to tell much more without giving away plot issues.

So, I will say, if you like Film Noir, you will like this book. There are plot twists and turns. You get to know Price and Frank pretty well. And it is easy to appreciate the loyalty and trust they have for one another.

It is an entertaining novella. I recommend it to any mystery fans who want a fast read that has a well plotted story.

More About the Author

I write mystery and suspense--cozy to edgy. I enjoy having a well-developed plot with lots of surprises. Reviewers often point out that I reach inside the mind of the killer, ferreting out their most basic needs and emotions. Of course, it's the reader's mind which really holds my interest.

I write children's books. As a child I was an incessant reader. As a teacher and mother, I witnessed the joy children experience reading stories for themselves, especially those incorporating rhythm and rhyme. In the process of creating a new book, I envision the pleasure the child will receive when hearing or reading the story.

C. R. Myers, a native Texan, received her MA from the University of Texas at Tyler. As a teacher and professional speaker, she designed and implemented her own creative writing course as well as writing college sketches. Today, Ms Myers works full-time as a free-lance journalist and novelist.
