Trip to Old New Orleans,
By Pam Milton (Bedford, Texas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Laffite's Lady (Paperback)
Laffite's Lady was wonderfully written. The author obviously did extensive research and invested a lot of time and love in this book. As a native of New Orleans, I know the places she wrote of; the plantations were as she described them; the Blacksmith shop is still there and the inscriptions described in the book are accurate; the characters were so well described I could see them strolling through the French Quarter. Her unique writing style kept me waiting from page to page to see what surprises were next. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series; I'm already try to figure out what avenues she will explore and how the characters will interact. While there was certainly romance in the novel, it didn't depend on romance or love scenes to carry it; the story was rich with suspence mixed with history. One of the best books I've read in years.

Don't be Ignorant.,
By Brett Thomas (New Orleans) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Laffite's Lady (Paperback)
I am Brett Thomas, a licensed tour guide with the city of New Orleans, a historian, and book lover. As I have read many other novels with grammatical problems in the past, I have yet to encounter one so rich in every aspect of the human drama of early 19th century New Orleans. I truly couldn't put it down! I would whole heartedly recommend this book to anyone who is intelligent enough to look past the grammar, and look into the genius that is Susan Elliston. I recommend this book daily to tour participants, and am anxiously awaiting a sequel. Keep up the great work Ms. Elliston!

Wonderful Adventure,
This review is from: Laffite's Lady (Paperback)
While on vacation in New Orleans instead of enjoying a peaceful vacation, a beautiful young woman has the adventure of her lifetime. While swimming one morning Tori finds herself thrown back into the year 1810 and away from her daughter. She vows to return, but finds returning to her time is harder than she expected. Tori soon finds out that 1810 New Orleans is a completely different world. Men own slaves, women have no rights, and a woman alone is a dangerous position to be in. After many adventures Tori soon finds herself on privateer's Jean Laffite's ship heading to the Caribeans. They soon fall in love, but Tori never forgets her vow to return to the 20th century and to her daughter. Susan Elliston's Laffite's Lady is a highly enjoyable novel that is rich in history and adventure. Anybody who loves stories of privateer Jean Laffite and New Orleans will surely keep this book on their shelf to be read over and over and over again.

President/CEO Louisiana Laffite Society,
By Rene Laizer L.L.S. (Louisiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Laffite's Lady (Paperback)
As a historian I read books that basically follow a time line of events as they happen. Somehow these people in history seem very distant. To see a hisorical character as a real person capable of feeling love, hate, depression, and all of the other emotions we all feel on a day to day basis helps us to understand why they did what they did. As a reenactor I love to replay the drama of these dramatic events that shaped our lives. No one has done a better job at reliving history than Mrs. Elliston in Laffite's Lady. Right now part of her book is being written into a song.

Not just for women!,
By Jonathan Kowsloski (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Laffite's Lady (Paperback)
Never wrote a review before, but this book deserves a great one. A friend of mine recommended the book and when she told me about it I thought it would be another "made for women" love story. As friends usually do, she insisted and I ordered the book. Determined not to read it I put it aside until my friend called and started asking questions about it. Ergo, I had NO choice. Anyway, the bottom line is that I read the book in two days because I could NOT put it down, period! What a fantastically written adventure and great education about the time in which it happened. The characters are full of life and the story draws you in from beginning to end. This is a book to be read by anybody who likes adventures, history, pirates, lovestories and timetravel. As a guy I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and look forward reading more from Susan Elliston, and thanks to my friend Jane for recommending it to me. Five Stars no doubt!

One of the best books I've ever read!,
By Susan Ferguson (Clermont, Fl United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Laffite's Lady (Paperback)
What an excellent book! It made me laugh, it made me cry and I could not wait to see what happened next. Page after page I was drawn in to this story. I could not put it down; I stayed up late at night reading into the wee hours of the morning, knowing I had to work the next day, but unable to pull myself away and I did not regret a minute of it. Susan really made you feel for the people in this book. The way that she easily moved from current time into the past and the depth of the characters made me feel like I really knew them. The evilness of the villains gave me chills. I felt so torn for Tori, wanting her to find her way back to her own time, but also wanting her to stay with Jean. My heart was full and breaking at the same time. I can not wait for a sequel and I will be the first person in line to see the movie! I have recommended it to everyone I know. Thanks Susan for writing such a great piece of work.

OUT-DAMN-STANDING,
By "chris_goodrick" (New Orleans, La) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Laffite's Lady (Paperback)
Ms. Elliston, It's me again! I graduated from AIT in Ft. Huachuca, AZ, so I finally got to finish "Laffite's Lady." I cried my eyes out at the end...I was totally going through Tori's emotions at the end. My only question is: what happened to Tori finding Cisco when she finally got home? That's who I thought was in the graveyard at first, but I was extreamly happy to see that it was Jean. It was the perfect ending to the perfect book! David brought over "The Wardrobe" and I've started reading it...it's really good so far. I hate putting it down! I want to tell you that your David is a regular Jean Laffite...the LATER Jean, the Jean after he met and fell in love with Tori. David shows qualities in a guy that are mostly extinct. I believe that I have YOU to thank for that! Please write me sometime chris_goodrick@hotmail.com I would love to hear from you. By the way...what is David's middle name? He won't tell me and I'm curious as hell! Again, your book was fantastic and I can't wait to finish reading "The Wardrobe!" Thank you!

The Most Enjoyable Book I've Ever Read!,
By Vi. Porritt (Gold Coast, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Laffite's Lady (Paperback)
I began reading the book when I broke my foot and had plenty of time on my hands. Just as well I did because I couldn't put the book down until I had finished! I would say it was the best book I have ever read and was disappointed when I finished it. I can't wait for the sequal! The book did everything for me.... covered every emotion, made me happy, sad and excited. I felt the pain, shed the tears and felt totally involved with the story. I feel the story is perfect for the big screen and would LOVE to see this happen. It is very rare that a book can captivate you the way this book did, to actually feel as if you have experienced what Tori felt and lived her life with her. Can't wait for the next book from Susan.
