Book Description

The British offered Jean Lafitte a Captaincy in the British navy along with extensive lands, titles and $30,000 in gold if he agrees to join with them to fight against the United States. So why does Lafitte refuse their generous offer?

In the approaching War of 1812 General Andrew Jackson doesn't have any weapons, ammunition or money to fight the British with and no one to turn to for help but the notorious pirate Jean Lafitte. Jackson hates pirates, but he agrees to meet with Lafitte, and he forms an unlikely alliance with the dashing pirate. What changed Jackson’s mind about attending the meeting?

Before the war begins, Lafitte buries an unusual treasure, one that is sought in the 21st century by two men and a beautiful woman.

Julianna Montaigne a direct descendant of Pierre Lafitte has found his diary in her grandfathers old sea man’s trunk. The diary has a clue to the treasure. Eddie Calto a New York City firefighter has a second clue left to him by his great great grandfather, The two join forces in an attempt to find Lafitte's Treasure. But there are dangerous men who want the treasure for themselves and for 200 years they have waited patiently for anyone seeking Lafitte’s Treasure.

Review

  • All I can say is wow. This book had it all. Action, Adventure, Suspense. I couldnt even stop reading it.
  • This story, for me, it has all the vital ingredients, action, adventure, murder, mystery, and romance. This author's attention to detail has meant that he has also added a lot of fascinating history about New Orleans and the famous pirate Jean Lafitte.

About the Author

I grew up in Queens, New York and after retiring from the FDNY I moved to sunny South Florida where I live with my wife Giovanna. I began writing books to help pay for my grandchildren’s college education. So far I've completed 15 novels and nine short stories including my popular 'ENGINE 24 FIRE STORIES' trilogy which includes the 5th installment in the ’STARLIGHT CLUB' series. LAFITTE'S TREASURE has been published now i plan to edit 'THE STARLIGHT CLUB 5: VENGENCE' which i shelved to write LAFITTE’S TREASURE. then i plan on writing a sequel to THE ADVENTURES OF THE LONE JACK KID. AWARDS THE STARLIGHT CLUB won the silver in the 2012 eLit contest in the ‘True Crime category'. in 2013 it won honorable mention in the ‘Historical Fiction category’ and Finalist in 2014 in the IPPY and Eric Hoffer awards, THE LONE JACK KID won ‘Finalist' in the 2013 readers favorite ‘Western' category. My short story 'FIRE: BOX 598' won the bronze in the 2013 Readers Favorite contest in the ‘Historical Non Fiction category'. Go figure. if i would have known that i could write a good story, i would have started writing a half century ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was a great book July 14, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
All I can say is wow. This book had it all. Action, Adventure, Suspense. I couldnt even stop reading it. I found myself reading this book in the morning, evening, and even to my newborn at night to help him fall asleep. I dont want to spoil the story but I was shocked with how everything turned out in the end. I have never been one to be into books that includes things such as pirates but this story was different than what I anticipated, in many ways. The author is brilliant and this was really a great book to read. There is so much more I would love to say about this book but it is just something that has to be read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great treasure hunting adventure. July 21, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This book begins way back in the past, and Governor Claiborne of Louisiana’s refusal to meet with the pirate Jean Lafitte, denouncing him as a “Hellish Banditti,” a decision which was to affect the lives of future generations of both families, and others.

For in 1813, the British had approached Jean Lafitte, asking them to join them in fighting the Americans, they had no idea of what sort of a man he was. He was a pirate, yes, but he was also a mason and lived his life by their codes of honour. Luckily, General Jackson recognised those codes and virtues also, and the rest as they say is history...

The decisions we make in life not only affect us, and the lives of those around us, but their repercussions can be felt, as ripples, far into the future. Eventually though these ripples do start to settle, and so it is, that through chance events and discoveries, the lives of two people, who had previously never met, converge.

The legacies, left to Eddie, and Julianna, bond them as they embark on their exciting and dangerous adventure. Following clues left in the past, they travel to New Orleans on their quest to discover the lost treasure, however, they are not the only ones who know about it, other’s want it too, and will do anything to procure it.

This story, for me, it has all the vital ingredients, action, adventure, murder, mystery, and romance. This author’s attention to detail has meant that he has also added a lot of fascinating history about New Orleans and the famous pirate Jean Lafitte.
I can thoroughly recommend it to lovers of treasure hunting action adventures and think it would make a great film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent mystery and action novel July 28, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Mr.Corso is a good author and I really enjoyed Lafitte's Treasure. The pace of the story was quick enough to keep it interesting but detailed enough to be realistic. There was only one half page of gratuitous sex between the two major characters and I think that even my mother could read this without blushing. I don't want to be a spoiler but the bad guys got what they deserved and the good guys came out on top. It's up to you to enjoy how it happened.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shades of the Da Vinci Code August 18, 2014
Format:Paperback
Joe Corso's background as a firefighter, his solid historical research, and his knowledge of Freemasons and the settings and places described in the story, creates a strong sense of realism in this exciting novel. If you liked the Da Vinci Code and would enjoying reading another fast-paced thriller with ingenious plot, I highly recommend Lafitte's Treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgic! July 31, 2014
By Love
Format:Kindle Edition
What intrigued me most about this book is, the author Joe Corso who wrote his first book at the age of 75, and has written 14 or more books since then. While reading "Lafitte Treasure" I got a nostalgic feeling of sitting next to my grandpas feet, listening to him tell me stories of history, in a way that made me enjoy every word. My grampa is now 94, and I still sit listening patiently as he enlightens me with his first hand knowledge of the past. As I read each one of Joe's books I fall more in love with him as a writer. "Lafitte's Treasure" visually took me back in time, like I was in the room with the pirate Jean Lafitte, as he convinces General Andrew Jackson to trust him with the complete financing of the war, to save America from the British attack. Then, I was whisked back into the present, experience the long term results of Lafitte's plan come to play in the lives of Julianna and Eddie. I recommend this book to everyone. We must start to cherish our elderly and appreciate all of the knowledge and experience they have to offer.

More About the Author

I grew up in Queens, New York. I started writing late in life hoping to help my grandchildren pay for their college education. I found to my surprise that I could tell a good story which resulted in my writing 21 books (so far), which includes my LONE JACK KID and FLAMES OF FURY trilogies.

Go figure. If I would have known that I could tell a good story. I would have started writing a half century ago.
