These boots are amazing. They felt broken in right out of the box. There was some pressure as the shoe formed to my foot but after a few hours it felt like I was wearing nothing at all. They arent classed as a Light Hiker but they feel like it. I can wear them as an everyday shoe and not feel it after the end of a long day.

Took them on two 5-6 mile 'most difficult' hikes on b2b days and I never even thought about my feet from base to summit and back. The waterproofing and insulation are superb. At one point I decided to test this and stood in an ice cold mountain stream for about 10 minutes. I couldn't even tell i was standing in water. I purposefully put them in the water every chance I got throughout the trip and they stood up to the test.

The soles are also very good. I never once slipped on any surface save mossy wet river stones. And I'm not sure there is a sole on the planet that finds grip on those. Still it was sufficient for me to do as much exploring and climbing as I liked with no problems.

They offer amazing support as well.
I have pretty weak ankles and knees and I'm known for rolling an ankle on any hiking trip. No problems with these boots. Roots, rocks, and muddy embankments were all easily traversed. With the stiff sole I never felt any of it.

They also feel like they were made to take you up elevation, due to the perfect(imo)arching of the soles, I never had to duck foot my way up the mountain. This also makes it feel like the shoe is doing the work for you and pushing you forward when walking flat ground.

They also perform exceedingly well on the downhill. No knee pain like with my last pair of boots.

They look really sharp too. The rock guard on the front appears to be sueded leather, but it performs like hardened rubber. Very solid. I would kick in doors with this boot.

    Highly Recommend

I bought these boots (at Amazon) for two reasons: my love for La Fuma gear and the previous reviewer's recommendation. Living in Canada it is next to impossible to find La Fuma gear; even in the US there is not a lot of choice. These boots were really the only 'boots' on Amazon by La Fuma that fit the criteria I was looking for. Sadly, none of the French shops ship to North America (can you say 'killer customs duties'?). In any case, I ordered them and received them the next day. Amazon did pre-charge me 30% import duty to Canada, which sucked, but there's not a lot to be done about that.

The boots: my experience with La Fuma has shown that you should order half a size up from your regular boot size. They are not the lightest pair of La Fuma's I've owned but they are lighter than a lot of other brand mid-weight hiking boots in stores. La Fuma in general is comfortable for those with wider feet.

I'd had them for a few weeks before I put them to the test. They're perfectly broken in right from the get-go. I took them on a 3 day brutalization trek. They performed beautifully. I went into a sub-alpine environment: lots of snow, lots of rocks, lots of tree roots, lots of water. I was carrying a 60 pound pack and they supported me very well over the 15 odd miles or so I did. Going uphill was a breeze (well, as much a breeze as 60 lbs can be), and it's as if there are little robots in the boots that push you forward, or maybe Rocky Balboa's ghost haunted my pair, urging me on. The boots are especially easy on the joints when going downhill.

I scraped them over rock fields, through mud, and across creeks. The waterproofing is good, although it is not Gore-Tex or other heavy-duty material. I did use gaiters, but those did not cover the boot top completely.

He did not really break in the shoes before wearing it to camp. I was a bit worry but it turned out to be ok.
