5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless Music i the Bhuvan 11 v/s the Russell 11, January 29, 2002

I think this is a brilliant Soundtract of the FIlm Lagaan which has a magical realism to it with its extraordinarily skethched characters , original plot and a Asterix like quality of the narration. Like Asterix was based on a real backdrop but the story was fictitious , the same goes with lagaan which has a backdrop of the British Raj but the story is fictitious. THe music and the lyrics written for the Bygone era yet has a freshness of today and Rahamsn has got the beat of the youth and brilliantly he marries the Indian CLassical with Wetern Classical and ofcourse the music of today.
Radha Kaise Na Jale is a wonderful song , then there are some woderful inspirational songs like Chale Chalo and O Mitwa.
Then there is the Ode to Monsoons "Kale Meha "Oh the Black CLouds" THe best I thought.

If you like this then go buy Dil SE which I think is the best of all his albums. Even ROja and Bombay are brilliant. A must for every Rahman Fan

4.0 out of 5 stars Another success for A R Rahman, February 7, 2002
The soundtrack for Lagaan is an excellent combination of melody and arrangement. Hopefully, this work will propel the listener into discovering all of the soundtracks from this fruitful composer, arranger, keyboardist, and vocalist. He started in 1992 with Tamil films and was so popular that it wasn't long before he entered Hindi and Telegu films as a top star. There is fine work across the gamet of his influence, although I personally prefer his Tamil soundtracks, due to the percussive quality of the language. Rahman is a rare genius who actually composes many songs a day when he is inspired.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lagaan, June 17, 2003

This is a fun CD. As an uninitiat I find it fun and entertainning. Indian music, especially from Bollywood movies, is not for everyone but if you like the genre you'll like this. It has a good beat to it and is catchy, though the India/ England mix doesn't really work in this format. I would recomend watching the movie "Lagaan" before you buy this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like Indian music, you'll adore this!, October 8, 2005
Trust me...you're going to love this music if you're at all into Indian music. This is of the same caliber as Ravi Shankar and upbeat Narada songs. If you go to a search engine to find the Lagaan website, you'll be able to get a taste of the music. Once you get a taste, you'll likely come back and make the purchase. And, it is well worth it. I love all but one song on this, and I like that one. Hard to say that for most albums on the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars A.R. Rahman Rocks!, August 24, 2001
Rahman did it again by coming out with an excelent album, Lagaan! The album is great with a mix of Indian Village songs and British waltze music. I saw the movie, which was also a hit. Aamir Khan truly made an advancement in the production of Hindi films!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, August 17, 2009
Lagaan, the Oscar-nominated film boasts another masterpiece soundtrack from the two-time Oscar winning maestro A.R.Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire). Look out how intelligently he blends both modern and Western sounds with classical Hindustani sound. It is wonderful, it is brilliant, it is a genius's work. Lagaan...Once Upon A Time is one of A.R.Rahman's best instrumental theme pieces (THE BEST is "Theme Music" from Earth 1947). And O Paalanhaare is one of his best religious "bhajjan" based songs, a beautiful and haunting song I must say. My personal favorite is Chale Chalo, it is so energetic, so up-beat. O Rey Chhori is a soothing and soulful love song with some great vocals and awesome blend with Western music. Mitwa is melodious and have this rural feeling. Ghanan Ghanan is a beautiful "rain song" with some ten or more singers behind the mic. To put it short, if you love Bollywood music, or if you liked Slumdog Millionaire's music, this album is gonna rock you. By the way if you like this must check the best of A.R.Rahman: Dil Se, Bombay, Roja, Taal, Rangeela, Saathiya, Dehli 6.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant film. Brilliant score., February 21, 2009
I first caught the film, "Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India" on television. It was only a quarter of the way through but I was hooked. It's a great "underdog" story with a thrilling ending. Beautifully written, directed, acted, designed, scored--every element is perfect. I immediately bought the DVD as well as the CD of A.R. Rahman's score. It is AMAZING. I've been listening to it for years now and it's always wonderful--lots of energy, beautiful melodies, and all the singers have clear, angelic voices. "Lagaan" is one of the best musical films I've ever seen or heard.
