Awesome collection of rare Nigerian Afro-Beat,
By DJ Joe Sixpack (...in Middle America) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Lagos Chop Up (Audio CD)
There are a lot of Afro-Beat retrospectives out on the market today, but this disc, featuring tunes gathered by Damon Albarn (of the rock band Blur) is one of the best and most distinctive. These rare recordings have some really wild, unusual sounds, unusual even for the super-groovy African funk scene of yesteryear... The songs glow with the same sort of live-wire creative fervor that made the late '70s/early '80s DIY punk/indie scene so much fun. You will not regret giving this disc a whirl.
