i really like this EP. I was obsessed with season 2 of Laguna Beach, and I loved all the music on it, especially Ginger's. Her lyrics, voice, and music are great too. If you watched Laguna Beach or if you liked Halo Friendlies, buy this!

Kay Hanley really needs to hear this, I would love to see the expression on her face when she heres music by her and her band that they've never recorded... Like "I know it's me singing, I hear the band playing but I don't ever recall recording this stuff"
I must say, I know there are clones out there, A lot of immitations and a lot of overlapping when it comes to being inspired or influenced but some people just don't know when and where to draw the line. These songs are 100% interchangeable with anything that Kay Hanley has recorded with her band LTC, Her duo Palmdale, As a solo artist and multiple soundtracks. This is completely her sound and style. the LTC trademark is written all over this Ginger Sling EP. What makes it worse is that Kay Hanley and Ginger are part of the same generation, It's not like Lady Gaga and Madonna. This is even worsed than the Lil' Kim & Nicki Minaj cloning. Sure there are a great many pop rock, punk, female fronted guitar playing bands that have some overlap in sound, quality, band playing, lyrical content, vocals etc. It's inevitable not too come close, be compared to or sound close/similar with the number of bands that have come about since the start of rock music up to this point in time but this is just TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT. Everything is done to a tee and is so on point. I'm sure there's something NON-identical and completely original about Ginger Sling but whatever it is it can't be seen with the naked eye or heard with an ear alone. The only things I see that are different Is the band name and song titles... Oh! and the way she looks, It's obviously a different woman. Other than that everything else is completely the same. Let's see "I'm looking at the song titles... Ok, They're different" "I'm looking at the band name... Ok, That's different" "..But when I play the music I'm hearing Kay Hanley singing... Something's not right. I mean, These sound a little too polished to be demos." Now, I will admit. these songs are actually great! I'm in love with "Are You Gonna", I like these songs a lot which would make sense since I'm a big Kay Hanley follower!!!!!!!! If this were actually LTC I would rate it 5 stars but because it's not, I just can't do it. The band sounds great and so does Ginger but they don't own this sound.... If you beg to differ type in (Letter's To Cleo "Go") Listen to the songs "Anchor" "I'm A Fool" "Co Pilot" "Veda Very Shinning" & "Disappear". Next Type in (10 Things I Hate About You Soundtrack) Listen to "Come On" "Cruel To Be Kind" and "I Want You To Want Me". Next Listen to the entire (Josie & The Pussycats Soundtrack) and "I See" from the Jawbreaker Soundtrack. Notice how all this stuff was recorded 10-15 years ago. LTC has been out since 1992. theres also stuff by them that I didn't mention but the stuff "I did" mention is more than enough for you to get the idea... PS: Checkout Kay Hanley "Weaponize" |
