Reset: The conclusion to a thought provoking series, December 29, 1999
This review is from: Lain: Reset [VHS] (VHS Tape)
How would you feel if you knew you had to erase yourself from the memories of all beings? Reset is an exiting conclusion to a very thought provoking (though sometimes hard to follow) series. It takes you on a ride not to be missed as Lain decides her fate and her future. Anyone who has seen the first three tapes cannot stop there, for the series simply drags you into Lain's world and leaves you begging for more. Do you love Lain? It was the intent of the creators for one to love lain as a person, and to miss out on the final tape would be to deny that purpose. Is this really the end of Lain? You decide.

Anime CAN Be Dramatic, May 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Lain: Reset [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I've only seen the last three 'layers' of the Lain series, but I'm already in love with it. Too often in anime do we see exaggerated characters and a method of storytelling that focuses mainly on either action or sex. Reset at least is exactly the opposite: the characters are real and reminded me of how fragile people are when faced with the kinds of mature themes the movie focuses on.
I would not recommend seeing Reset until you've seen the other Lain movies, because I'm sure it will ruin the end as it has for me. None the less, I'm going to see the others anyway.
The series is about a girl who discovers that there are, in fact, two worlds: the real world and the wired world. Further on, she discovers that she is a link between the two. Reset concludes the series as Lain contemplates the question of deleting herself from the memories of everyone she knows. If no one remembers her, did she ever really exist?
On the whole, the Lain series seems to be well-animated and incorporates elements of computer graphics along with it. I wouldn't recommend it to die hard Dragon Ball Z fans, however. Lain is a very emotional and dramatic series that deals very closely with it's main character and her relationships with those who know her. If you enjoyed Ghost in the Shell, you'll probably like Serial Experiments Lain. In any case, it's an excellent find.

The best Lain video, February 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Lain: Reset [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is the best possible conclusion to Lain they could come up with. I admit I was sadden by the ending, but it's surprising how much sense the rest of the series makes! I love this volume, and it is my favorite out of the four of them. This is a definate BUY for Lain fans!
