5.0 out of 5 stars No Finer Place
I've had the Lp for a thousand years, but no longer have a turntable. I missed listening to some of the definitive music of my earlier life, so what a treat it was to find this CD. I remember going to see AH&J at Ratso's in Chicago. Rarely missed a gig. AH&J vocals were the best and showed what music is really about. AH&J deserve to be more widely...

As a Chicago native, the song "Lake Shore Drive" has a very, very special place in my heart, so I'm glad to have it in my collection at long last. It's difficult to put into words what magical summer memories the song evokes.

But ...

The sound quality is abysmal on at least one cut on this CD: "For Eddy" includes an intermittent hiss that sounds like it was recorded directly off an LP. I checked - you can't hear it on the song sample here at Amazon.

And the CD includes no liner notes of any kind. Surely *something* could have been written about this group's career.

For those reasons, and believe me, it pains me deeply to do so, I give this CD three stars.

I remember going to see AH&J at Ratso's in Chicago. Rarely missed a gig. AH&J vocals were the best and showed what music is really about. AH&J deserve to be more widely appreciated and anyone who has this CD should buy another copy for a friend. Skip, if you read this, I think of you often and I hope you're well. LA wasn't it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe I finally found it on CD !!!, October 16, 1999

I've got a POOR copy of Lake Shore Drive from when I was stationed at Great Lakes in the mid 80's. I taped it from "Magic 104.1 FM" (do they even exist anymore?) with a cheap "boom box", and I notice a loss of quality every time I listen to it. L.S.Drive and the Cubs are backbone of Chicago, and this song brings back great memories every time I hear it.....................

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are lucky enough to find this treasure..., December 20, 1999
This review is from: Lake Shore Drive (Audio CD)
Lakeshore Drive is one of the coolest...uniquest...greatest songs I have ever heard...Myself a 16 year old likes more of the heavy metal genre...Scorpions...Van Halen...Def Leppard...Skid Row, Not a real big fan of folk rock or soft classic rock...But the first time I heard this song it totally blew me away. The piano in this song is awsome along with the violins.

As a native Chicago-arean, I've loved the song Lake Shore Drive for years. I was thrilled to see it was again available. However, after listening to the entire album, I realized it represents a style of music that doesn't seem to exist anymore, and it's too bad. There's a story in every song, and one you want to hear. Playful, truthful, and a simple celibration of everyday things.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rare gem!!, October 29, 1999
By A Customer

Rarely is one song worth buying an entire album for, this is definately one exception. Even if you are not amused by the stoners athem "uppers and downers" or nastalgic about the crackling phonographic sound of "For Eddy", Lakeshore Drive has been one of my favorite songs for years. Growing up in SW Michigan back when 105.9 used to substitute CKG for LSD, I couldn't get enough until I bought it. I've listened to it from Lakeshore Drive to A1A, to the Pacific Coast Highway, and no song can make driving, or any other occasion, feel better!

Way back in the early 70's (before I moved to Austin, Tx) I use to go to a club called Orpahns and see AHJ....I even got the album which is now all pitted and warped...what a JOY to see it in CD form.....Does anyone know if the guys are still playing?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic - Greatest of the One Hit Wonders, September 16, 1999

As someone originally from Chicago, I can say that there is nothing like cruising Lake Shore Drive while listening to this song. Does anyone rememember that Mitch Aliotta was once with a group called the Rotary Connection.

5.0 out of 5 stars From Chicago? Must have!, May 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lake Shore Drive (Audio CD)
This CD typifies the melding of folk and rock that was heard in the small venues and coffee houses around Chicago in the mid-seventies. If anything, classically underproduced with the focus on lyrics and harmony. I must have another!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ain't no finer place to be than ridin' on Lake Shore Drive, April 4, 1999

One of the greatest, yet obscure songs outside of Chicago. A must play whenever runnin' south on LSD.
