Captain Lenny Crispino has been a successful professional tournament fisherman and full-time guide on Lake Tarpon for more than 12 years. He owns and operates Tarpon Tom's Bait & Tackle, located on Lake Tarpon, and is widely sought after as a speaker for Bass and Fishing Clubs in the Tampa Bay Area. His fishing columns appear monthly in the St. Petersburg Times and The Suncoast News. He also frequently appears on television fishing shows and videos as a bass fishing expert. Lenny has spent over a decade studying largmouth bass migratory patterns on Lake Tarpon and is widely acclained as one of the premier experts on Lake Tarpon trophy bass fishing methods.
Another reason the lake isn't fished heavily may be its location. Its 2500 plus acres are nestled in an area of northern Pinellas County that is primarily residential and commercial. If you didn't know that the lake was there, you'd probably never find it. U.S. Highway 19 N borders the lake on the west- but almost no open water can be viewed from the road. There are only three easy public access areas and two of these are through State Parks. Most state maps show Lake Tarpon but many regional and natinal maps don't.
This book was written for local and visiting fishermen (and women) who want to catch more and bigger fish in Lake Tarpon. Our focus is primarily on black bass fishing, with an emphasis on trophy bass. However, it also includes fishing tips and specific locations for the lak's other species such as bream (bluegill), shellcracker, specks (crappie), catfish, gar and bowfin. All of these species are abundant in Lake Tarpon and usually are willing to bite year 'round.
