Book Description

October 30, 2001
The lake trout is one of the most elusive fish in North America-and one of the most captivating. Based on thirty years of fishing experience, Lake Trout offers an in depth look at this majestic fish including everything from the biology of the fish to the history of the areas surrounding the lakes in which they live. The first two chapters explore the evolution of the lake trout fisherman and the lessons that have been learned over the years by the authors' predecessors. Throughout Lake Trout, Edward Eveland and Ross Shickler include anecdotes of their first fishing experiences in Canada and the northern United States and the various successes, failures, and awe-inspiring moments they met along the way. Also discussed is the future of the lake trout including pollution fears, over-fishing and shrinking habitats.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive book on lake trout fishing, July 6, 2003
By
Dr. Mark D. "Doc" Hatton (Ridgewood, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lake Trout: North America's Greatest Game Fish (Hardcover)
A "must own" volume for anyone who pursues - or has an interest in - lake trout (which Shickler and Eveland term "North America's Greatest Gamefish").
Chapters trace the history of trout and trout fishing. Methodology, tackle, and locations are covered. Perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of the book is the authors' style of interweaving tales of trout fishing and the great outdoors. Merely reading the account of Lloyd Bull's record 72 pound moster will have you booking your next trip!
Reading LAKE TROUT is like taking a mini fly-in trip for yourself: You'll become absorbed in the material, insulated from your everyday world, and yearning to head out and wet a line...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book, January 28, 2004
By
Thomas W. Balon (Durham, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lake Trout: North America's Greatest Game Fish (Hardcover)
This is simply the most comprehensive book on lake trout written. The authors approach the topic from a scientific view. However the practical points (i.e., tackle) about catching the fish along with a entertaining sidelights (epic battles by record-holders) make this book a "must read" for serious fisherman. I feel that something more could have been written about the "Niagara Bar", the Great Lakes and some other Canadian Lakes (i.e. Reindeer Lake)as lake trout fisheries but this does little if anything to detract from what has been presented.

2.0 out of 5 stars Misleading discription, April 28, 2009
By
B. Briggs (Yukon, Canada.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lake Trout: North America's Greatest Game Fish (Hardcover)

It's a fine book for what it is - a memoir of two individuals lifetime pursuit of lake trout (keeping in mind it's a part-time pursuit).

While there is history, biology and technique. It's sparse.

Don't go to this book for information. Inspiration perhaps, but not information.

It left me feeling misled.
