This book features many great pictures of homes on or near the Great Lakes. It covers several types of building styles and architectures. Every home looks like a sublime dream. One critique though is that most of the homes are of the spare-no-expense ultra wealthy variety. Even the cabins would be out-of-reach for most people.

In spite of the very much by the lake cover of this book, there are few to none of the photoes inside that actually depicts lakeside livig. Being a book that does not offer to 'look inside' one has to take a chance, and this was a waste. Yes, there are beautifil pictures of retreat like houses, but these could be anywhere. Do you want a book that truly has lakeside living depicted, get the 'Lakeside houses' instead. Now that is something else, or rather that would give you the most inspiering photoes of what it would be like to live on a lake, and ample ideas of how to create that atmoshere so spesific to residing on the water.

This is one case where I was fooled by the cover. The photos and descriptions of the houses leave a lot to be desired. Either there are very few beautiful lakeside houses or the authors don't understand what makes a home beautiful. We wanted to get ideas for our lakeside home and alas received very few inspirations. We suggest an investment other than in this book is wise.

Lakeside Living is a look at some beautiful lakeside cottages, houses and cabins at the great lakes. They give some great ideas. The only thing I could say they should add is floor plans. Other than thet it is worth buying.

The Great Lakes is a phenomenal center of American architecture and design. Little attention has been given

to the creation of the design arts there as a regional vernacular. This short survey should be recognized as

one of the first of many studies surely deserved by the history of the area.
