Poor replacement model -- beware!,

This review is from: Lakewood 1024 Silver Metallic 3-Wing Blade High Velocity 12-Inch Fan (Kitchen)
Two years ago, I bought the Lakewood HV-12 high velocity fan. I am still using it and it is an awesome HV fan with a strong motor that moves a lot of air on high and is very quiet on medium and low. It has large, well pitched "Mickey Mouse Ear" aluminum blades and the construction is very durable.
OK, so here it is two years later and I'd like another one of these gems. Guess what? I ordered what I thought was the same product. This one is different. It is the HV-12/C. I think the "C" stands for "crappy". While the construction looks durable enough, the blades are these half-width crescent shaped blades and have very little pitch, the motor is wimpy yet noisier (makes an annoying chattering sound that sounds like a band of cicadas) and moves about half as much air as the original HV-12. After receiving this dissappointing piece, I did some more research on the internet and discovered that Lakewood discontinued the HV-12 and now only has the HV-12/C. Were they trying to cut costs or what? Sorry Lakewood, but you just lost a customer on this one. I'm returning mine!

Worse every year,

This review is from: Lakewood 1024 Silver Metallic 3-Wing Blade High Velocity 12-Inch Fan (Kitchen)
Three years ago I bought one, it was a great fan, it had a very long cord (12 feet?) and was quiet and pushed a ton of air. Next year the motor was a bit smaller and the cord was shorter (6 feet?). Last year the motor was even smaller and pushed a lot less air. This year I saw it at the store and the motor is completely redesigned (much smaller) and the display unit wobbles and chatters - really a terrible fan now.

For many years I've used a couple 20-inch box fans to aid with the uncomfortable days of the summer season. One draws air in; the other exhausts air in the other side of the house. It works fairly well, but last summer (2007) was particularly hot. I was visiting my local warehouse club store and noted a display of Lakewood fans. I picked up a box containing a 12-inch fan and a smaller 4-inch model (reviewed elsewhere). The cost was quite reasonable and it was, without question, an impulse item.
The 12-inch fan (Lakewood HV-12C) has served us well. It's good looking, highly portable and reasonably quiet. We tote it about and have used it in the kitchen, the workshop, the bedroom and several other places. it has worked particularly well in the bedroom where we can put it on low speed and let it run all night. We've now used it through two summer/fall seasons and it's still working well and has had no problems. It's a good piece of equipment and the price was right. Other reviewers have noted deficiencies with this model as compared with the earlier HV-12 model. The HV-12C is made in China. I have no way to judge these comments as I have never had the HV-12 model, or any other 12-inch fan for comparison. As a buyer, I'd certainly take these comments seriously. However, we have had quite good results with the HV-12C and are fully satisfied with the product. About the only caution I might note is that our price for the two fans (HV-4 and HV-12C) was substantially below the price quoted here for the 12-inch fan alone. (Note: Apparently model numbers are being shifted around a bit. This model 1024 appears to be exactly the same as HV-12C. In fact, if you put Lakewood HV-12C into the search, this is what you get.)
