5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome personal heater
I bought the Lakewood 8320 radiant heater to keep me warm in the kitchen, when toweling off in the bathroom, and to keep me warm in my home office. It succeeded brilliantly at the first two tasks, acceptably so for the third. The heat pattern is rectangular beam that is perfect for heating a sitting or standing human about 3 feet away. 2.0 out of 5 stars Heats a very small radius of space
I was interested in getting a smaller, more efficient space heater than most of the ones I saw, since I only needed it to warm a 10x10 room. Unfortunately, this one is insufficient at doing its job. If you sit more than two feet away from it you won't even know that it's there. If you sit close to it, the side of your body facing the heater will be too hot and the side...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome personal heater, April 21, 2009
This review is from: Lakewood 8320 Ultra-Quiet 19-Inch 300-Watt Tower Heater with Carbon Fiber Technology (Kitchen)
Under a desk, the bottom of the desk heats up, perhaps too much (though it keeps the person sitting at said desk comfortably warm). It gives off a dim red glow, unlike the bright yellow-orange light of halogen radiant heaters and is utterly silent. Its easy to pick up with its built-in handle and move from place to place, and its stable on its base. There is no thermostat (which is of minimal utility in a radiant heater) or heat settings, only off and on. It only consumes 300 Watts, versus 1500 for many space heaters. Very satisfied with this purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great hot and silent "little" heater we love, December 28, 2008

This review is from: Lakewood 8320 Ultra-Quiet 19-Inch 300-Watt Tower Heater with Carbon Fiber Technology (Kitchen)
The best! This unit is small, efficient and silent and acts like about a 750 Watt heater that consumes only 300 Watts of power--important to us because we must pay California electric rates. It is also dim enough to sleep with unlike the great Soleus Air MS-09 Oscillating Radiant Heater which uses 400 Watts on its low setting is a bit brighter. The Lakewood doesn't oscillate or have a timer but it does the job more efficiently than anything else. You can add a wired remote switch or even a remote dimmer like Lutron TT-300H-WH Electronics Plug-In Lamp Dimmer, White or Westek 6089B 500W Full Range Foot Control Dimmer, Black if you want to because it draws only a couple of Amps at low wattage.

I was interested in getting a smaller, more efficient space heater than most of the ones I saw, since I only needed it to warm a 10x10 room. Unfortunately, this one is insufficient at doing its job. If you sit more than two feet away from it you won't even know that it's there. If you sit close to it, the side of your body facing the heater will be too hot and the side away from it will be cold. There's a tip-over sensor on the bottom that also prevents it from working on even a low-pile carpet surface, so this is pretty much for hardwood or tile floors only. I didn't have the problem that other customers have had (of it spontaneously shutting off) but I only used it for two days before returning it to the store for one almost 3 times as much money that actually works. If you want to know what it's like to own this space heater, turn on and open your toaster oven and sit near it. The experience is about the same.

Pluses: Silent, inexpensive

Minuses: Cheap build quality, minor assembly required, heat only radiates about two feet from the grille

This heater shuts off after 10 minutes of working. Then you have to bang it hard on the floor to reset the shutoff. Then it works again for 10 munites.

A great product to warm your legs on a cold winter night. It is more of a one person warmer than a space heater, but for that purpose, it is economical and works well

1.0 out of 5 stars GOING! GOING! GONE!!!, January 6, 2012

This review is from: Lakewood 8320 Ultra-Quiet 19-Inch 300-Watt Tower Heater with Carbon Fiber Technology (Kitchen)
I bought three Lakewood 8320 heaters about a month ago and all three were working great. Heats up a small room and it is fine since my property is a beach house and doesn't require alot of heat in this small house. Although, one of the heaters light on the bottom lights up, but when you press the button. Nothing. The heater is completely GONE. Now I need to find out how to return it. Hopefully I can. There you have an honest review.
P.s. I love the fact that this is only 300 watts, but how good is it if it doesn't work.

1.0 out of 5 stars not so good, February 16, 2011
This review is from: Lakewood 8320 Ultra-Quiet 19-Inch 300-Watt Tower Heater with Carbon Fiber Technology (Kitchen)
this heater did not last very long. the element was fine but the on off button ceased to function 2/3 way thru winter. it could not be repaired. when it worked, it generated a modest amount of heat. it seemed designed to be useful if one sits very close to it. i advise not buying this heater as it seems poorly constructed.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is the best little heater!!/ not anymore, December 5, 2010
This review is from: Lakewood 8320 Ultra-Quiet 19-Inch 300-Watt Tower Heater with Carbon Fiber Technology (Kitchen)
Although the base is a bear to put together, and it is a bit light/flimsy, it otherwise is amazing as far as heat output. I place mine on a modified cooking tray ( sturdy aluminum ) and it seems to double the heat output from the relection of the tray. My cats love it, and it doesn't glare you to death like many others of this type. And only 300 watts. Should have bought 2.

Highly recommended!!

Added 2011: heater died after only 2 months in occassional use. I mean totally died. Don't waste your money, and I'm now glad I didn't buy 2!

The heater does a good job. We have a room with no vents where our TV is and it kept us warm all winter. The only thing is it has to be fairly close to you (4-5 feet away at most). Overall, good.

This heater shuts off at random after 10-20 minutes and you have to hit the reset button on the back everytime it does this. It also will only heat up a very small space sufficiently (9x9 max). DON'T waste your money.
