I used the 800 watt setting & stayed very warm. At 1200 watts it too hot for most days. It's great if you want to plug something else in the same outlet or circuit, or have older outlets that may get too warm with higher wattage models. I also saved a lot on my heating bills without sacrificing comfort. It was my favorite home heater for the whole winter.

Unfortunately Amazon didn't carry this model last year, so I had to get it somewhere else.

Radiant (infrared) heaters focus the heat in a concentrated direction like a floodlamp would, instead of blowing it all over a room, into corners, up to the ceiling, & under furniture. It's intended to heat up a specific area, couch, chair, bed, or a few people, not rapidly heat up an entire room. Parabolic (dish) radiant/infrared heaters focus this heat to a tighter area than other reflective types. If you need a wider spread you'll have to move it back further, just like a spotlight.

To heat up an entire room completely you'll need the higher setting.

Also if you're in a drafty or poor insulated older room, or one with high ceilings, your heat from traditional heaters (convection, furnace, ceramic, & fan-forced) may leak out fast or rise to the ceiling where you don't need it. Radiant heat feels warmer & is more efficient in those kind of rooms.

I have owned the Lakewood dual-wattage Parabolic heater for 6 years. It is very dependable and I am completly satisfied with it. The only problem is the thermostat has worked loose but the unit is still working in good condition..Right now I am looking for a supplier for these units where as I can purchase another one. This heater is the best portable heater that I have ever owned.

This dish was my only source of heat for a while as I lived in and remodeled my basement. Quick to warm up. Faithfully shut down when the thermostat told it to. Quiet and a great companion at my feet. The only warning is how much electricity it sucks down: lots. But for me it was worth it.
