My kids are learning from this book series at school and I learn with them in the evening. This is a great book for beginners. It is great for learning the writing system and pronunciation, there are dozens of listening activities in the book with the CD tracks integrated. It will give you a very good start with vocabulary and simple sentences too. I can't wait for the Level 3 textbook to come out to learn more. And my kids too.

This book is well put together. However, as stated, it is made for school children and the vocabulary is not as useful for adults. However, there are few options in Lakhota books.

I bought the textbook Level 2 directly from the LLC web site and again with Level 2 we are for another treat! These textbooks (Level 1 thru 3) are really for EVERYONE! I guess some people don't like to be taught - like children are - and I don't know why. If you are serious about learning Lakhota and the sounds / words / sentences are a mystery for you NO MORE thanks to MR. Jan Ulrich textbooks! In addition Jan has been working with many native persons and that is why the textbooks are gems. More than recommended! (check out the LLC dictionary as well - I've never seen anything like that and I get [not] lost in it for hours!!!)

The CD is a good source for learning Lakota and the textbook is a necessary part of it.
