Lakhotiya Woglaka Po! - Speak Lakota! Level 1 Audio CD is the audio component of the the Level 1 textbook. Designed as a companion product to the textbook, it provides an important aural dimension to the textbook, especially in areas of word pronunciation and phrase inflection. Narrated by trained Lakota educators, the CD provides exceptionally clear and appropriately-paced narration both from male and female speakers and among different age speakers. The Audio CD covers vocabulary and dialogue in all Units from 1 to 24. Particularly useful for students as well as teachers, the CD assists in forming good language speaking habits and helps reinforce Lakota orthography.

This CD was for a teacher - someone far more advanced in the language than I am. I can see that it will be more useful when I can speak Lakota but for now it was not that helpful,

Ok, I love languages and one day I came accross the Lakota language: I simply fell in love with it and you will too! The reviews here are quite confusing: I bought from the LLC (Lakota Laguage Consortium) the Text book 1 and the text book 2, and I bought the CDs for each of these text books. The text books are AMAZING and will teach you a great deal! In my opinion they are the best teaching tools available. The CDS are really great companions to the text book as they teach you how to pronouce the words. Therefore it is a mistake to review the CD(s) as stand alone. If you have any doubt, try Text Book 1 and CD 1. The content, the work from the author (Mr. Jan Ullrich) is worth much more than these are sold for!
The LLC teaching text books and CDs are definitively FIVE Star material. I did try other books and method but nothing compares to the LLC's. I have just bought the New lakota Dictionary (see my review) and the combination of the text book + CD + dictionay is simply the best material you can ask for in order to really learn Lakhota.

This cd cannot be used on its own, and hardly compares to the truly professional language cd's produced by Teach Yourself or any other publisher. The publishers of Native American grammars for learning languages have completely disregarded the tried and true methods used for other languages western or nonwestern. I just can't figure out why. Lakota is no more difficult than any European language and the methodology for producing dialogs and vocabulary lessons seems to baffle the writers. The voices, however, are all very clear and give a sampling of young and old speakers, which is very nice. The book, of course, is meant for teachers to use with children, but adults with enough intestinal fortitude can use it for a basic understanding of the language. The book also uses an excellent orthography compared to White Hat's overuse of diacritic marks. Despite these shortcomings, it's important to learn Native American languages and especially to support the Lakota Language Consortium for its outstanding efforts to revive the language among the children.
