5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant insight into Indian Culture before Anglos came, December 12, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lakota Dawn (Hardcover)
In 1842, half-breed Cloud Chaser is abducted from his Indian tribe, the Red Shields of the Lakota Nation. The youngster learns that his family is dead and is adopted by the Martins, who raise him as their own in Oregon. Years later, he learns that his Indian family still lived.

In 1854, after the death of the white parents who adopted him, Cloud Chaser, following a dream, returns to the Red Shields. However, neither his father Chief War Eagle nor his half brothers trust him. As he tries to prove his loyalty, he begins to do various brave deeds to help his tribe. He also falls in love with his soul mate Macha. However, as he tries to rejoin his people, his cousin despises him and will do everything possible to destroy him. Chances of Cloud Chaser ever being accepted by the Red Shields appear slight, as war with the whites is imminent.

LAKOTA DAWN, the second novel in Janelle Taylor's "Lakota" quartet, is a brilliant western romance that brings to life a bygone era from the rarely seen or read Indian perspective. The story line is filled with non-stop action and the support cast adds much dimension. The return of Wind Dancer and Chumani (stars of book one, LAKOTA WINDS, which will be re-published in May 1999) in significant secondary roles makes the novel feel even more reader friendly. The romance is great, leaving readers to thirst for books three and four, starring the remaining siblings.

Ok..this was a captivating book. I must read the next book ...Lakota Flower....and soon. I am entirely involved in this story and must find out what happens between Cloud Chaser and Two Feathers...I like the characters in this story and the plot was full of details. The writer captured me into a timecapsule..it was wonderful.

Great! I am one of her biggest fans and this book is as strong and well-written as all her work. The love story is believable and the characters are unforgetable. I LOVED IT!

I really enjoyed reading this book. It ws one of the first books that I read by Janelle Taylor. Even though i had not read the previous books in the series, i had not trouble understanding the background, because it was written so well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Second book in a great 4 part series., June 24, 1999

Taylor does it again! This series is brilliant. Although Lakota Winds (first book in series)was better, this book also has its finer points. I love the way Cloud Chaser comes home to confront his family and his enemies. Hopefully in the next book (Lakota Flower) we will see what happens between him and Two Feathers! MUST READ THIS SERIES!

Hello, I haven't actually read the book, but my mother-n-law has read it. We have been in search of Lakota Flower, but we have come up empty. She really enjoys reading the "lakota" books. Please tell me when Lakota Flower will be out for her to buy. Thank you!
