At times I wanted to scream at the book, because I was so frustrated with how little romance is actually in it. Until the very end all that is shared between the main caracters are a few stolen kisses. This book is frustratingly full of details about native american life, when what you really want to read about is the blossoming love between War Eagle and Caroline. The historylesson is interesting, but not what I bargained for when purchasing this book. On the positive side the book is actually wellwritten, well paced and full of beliavable secondary characters. What I do miss is a deeper insight into the mindsets of the main characters. Especially War Eagle has you guessing most of the time, which is a real shame.

Overall a nice read, if you are truly interested in the old ways of the native americans and do not mind that the romantic scenes are few and far apart, quite naively written and no hot details are revealed at all.

Apologies to the author, but this was a pretty poor effort. It seemed pretty much a stereotypical "Native American man meets white woman and they create their own special bond." kind of story. She's brave, headstrong and impetuous, and for some far fetched reason she's out in the middle of the prairie, with a bunch of soldiers. He and his tribe want to stop the white man from encroaching upon their sacred hunting grounds. He's been taught English by two different people and while the words,"lips the color of the setting sun" appear to be in his vocabulary, he hasn't learned the word "I". Really? Someone's been watching too many 1950's cowboys and Indians movies. I couldn't even make it past the first chapter, freebie or not.

Janelle Taylor has been one of my favorites since I started reading romance novels 20 years ago. I have always enjoyed her books but this one was a bore. I felt like I was getting a history lesson in American Indians instead of reading a romantic tale. So disappointing!

The adventures, dangers, romances, and betrayals continue in this passionate and rich story. Clear your schedule, as you won't be able to put down this book. This is a series purchased and enjoyed by women and men.

I have always been interested in the culture of the North American Indians, so this book captured my attention, I was a bit put off with some of the other reviews written but bought the book anyway.
It took me a while to get into it but after the first few chapters I was hooked. I learned a lot about the culture of the Lakota Indians. Janelle also helped me realise just how they were treated by the white man.As for the romantic side, I thought it was wonderful and the build up to the end was just how it should have been.I have since found out that there are two books prior to this one and I have since had all three books shipped over to me. This is a collection well worth keeping.
Thank you Janelle for such a wonderful read, and I will be looking forward to reading more of your books!

I read this book because I got it free for my Kindle. I'm not a romance novel reader, but I enjoyed this book. If you're looking for hot, steamy sex, this isn't what this book is all about. The story itself is a foregone conclusion right from the start, but I could tell that the real tale was the history of the Lakota Indians during this period of time.

At times, this story read more like a history book and it was obvious Ms. Taylor was desperate to get in all the facts, much of which was unnecessary. Living in the northwest myself and knowing a little about the Native American culture, I feel the author was careful to depict life very close to how it really was during this time period.

I haven't got a burning desire to read more from this author, but I enjoyed this story.

I really loved this book. I read it every moment I could. I could feel the passion between the two charictors, It was just great!

I read this book when it first came out in paperback and loved it. When I saw that it was now offered as a Kindle version, I grabbed it. I'm so glad I did. I really enjoyed reading this story again. You just don't see books like this written now. Some recent reviewers of this book say they didn't enjoy it because there was too much history in it and not enough romance. I thought it was a very good blend. I just got back from a trip to the Black Hills and really enjoyed reading "how it used to be" vs "how it is today". Thanks to Janelle Taylor and her publisher for bringing this classic back to life with a Kindle version.

I normally love historical romances, but this one was the exception. There were too many historical details and too few romantic moments between the main characters. I felt like I was reading a history text book, not a romantic story. I gave up about half way through because this book was incredibly boring.
