Book Description

July 10, 2008
The Lakota Way 2009 wall calendar features all original medicine shield artwork from Lakota artist and author Joseph M. Marshall III and Dakota artist Joseph Chamberlain. Each spread includes the Lakota names for the months, such as 'When the Geese Return' and 'When Berries are Good.' Mr. Marshall's text presents a traditional Lakota virtue for each month, guiding the reader along the Lakota path of wisdom. Joseph M. Marshall III is a teacher, historian, Lakota craftsman and writer. He has authored several screenplays in addition to five books, including the highly acclaimed Walking with Grandfather, The Lakota Way and The Journey of Crazy Horse. Mr. Marshall is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and was most recently involved with the television mini-series Into the West as narrator, actor and consultant. Joseph Chamberlain is a Dakota artist who portrays the Sioux tribe's culture and traditions through paintings and drawings. His art has graced many books and CD covers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, February 12, 2010
This review is from: The Lakota Way 2009 Wall Calendar (Calendar)
This is a great calendar with beautiful art and lots of traditional wisdom. My only wish is that the Lakota text had been written using the standard Lakota spelling as it is used in the New Lakota Dictionary. That would make it so much easier to read. It is also the spelling used in most of our Lakota schools now and it is consistent.
