4.0 out of 5 stars wonderful for meditation and quiet times!, August 19, 2005

This review is from: The Lama's Chants: Songs of Awakening / Roads of Blessings (Audio CD)
I really like lisening to buddhist chants, this cd is very good the lama chants well; and in most of the songs the added instruments adds to the chant.however in some of the tracks I find it overpowers the chanting.my favorite tracks are the ones with little or no added instrumental music. In all a good purchase and a very nice addition to my sacred music collection.
Om Mani Padme Hung.......to all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good CD!, December 31, 2009
I have bought every buddhist Monk and chant CD I could find and this is by far the best. His voice is powerful and meditative. They VERY gradually increase his voice with his own harmonics in the chants which makes it sound like 10 of him in the middle of each chant. It is exactly what I was looking for all these years. It is by far the best chant CD I have found -- anywhere. It really brings out the meditative power when you listen to this while sitting.

Well recorded. I listen to a lot of different kinds of music and appreciate well engineered recordings. This CD is well recorded; the music is relaxing and inspiring. I like to listen when I study to or just unwind and meditate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly beautiful, September 10, 2009
This review is from: The Lama's Chants: Songs of Awakening / Roads of Blessings (Audio CD)
I have 4 different CDs of monks chanting so it's a given that I like this kind of chanting. I wasn't sure I would like a single monk chanting as much as I do a group, but this is so meditative and hauntingly beautiful. Listen to the samples provided here and you will see.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, April 6, 2009
This review is from: The Lama's Chants: Songs of Awakening / Roads of Blessings (Audio CD)
These are by far the best chanting CDs I've ever listened to. I was concerned about the music being too over powering from one of the reviews, but I didn't think so after listening to it. The chanter has excellent calm voice. Very happy that I made this purchase.

Just superb - Experience Peace. It also has a positive uplifting impact on you - on the Chakras and helps one's progress spiritually, mentally, emotionally and health-wise.

It is a blessing and grace from the rich tradition of spiritually-rich Tibet.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful sound!, January 15, 2007
This review is from: The Lama's Chants: Songs of Awakening / Roads of Blessings (Audio CD)
Tibetan Buddhism is a deeply-felt line of Buddhism. To me, it is sincere, and very compassionate, and loving. The sound of Lama Gyurme is amazing, and very soothing. I definitely recommend this CD for meditation or even general listening. If I listen to it while driving, I feel obligated to relax, and I feel better (driving is stressful/scary for me, so this helps). The way the chanting flows is really smooth (not at all forceful), and it has a lovely rhythm. I like European monk chanting too; Tibetan is deeper both in tone and feeling, like it's speaking to your roots. It's therapeutic, relaxing, and beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars 6 stars on a 5 scale, April 18, 2007

I own 5 or 6 Tibetan chant cd's or tapes. This one is definitely among my favorites. I have been meditating twice daily since 1975. I now meditate while playing "Lama's Chant". I agree with the reviewer that occasionally the music comes close to overpowering the chant. On the other hand the music probably helps "newcomers" to Tibetan chanting connect. My favorite is track 4 on disc #1: '"Calling The Lama From Afar". I applaud the quality of the chant and the quality of the music. I encourage ANYONE to listen to this CD- I think it is WONDERFUL!

Actually, this review is for Rain of Blessings, not The Lama's Chants. Sorry!! In any case, I just wanted to add a couple of comments to the existing reviews. First, as an audiophile, I found this recording to be outstanding: very rich, detailed with great imaging. Second, my first purchase was the other album entitled The Lama's Chants Songs of Awakening/Roads of Blessing. I was really disappointed and somewhat ticked-off with this CD. For instance some of the songs on this album are said to be "remastered". However, they are, in actual fact, remixed/redubbed. One example is the "Offering Chant" on the Rain of Blessings CD which I personally find very lovely and quite haunting. This song also appears on Awakening Roads; however, it's redubbed almost to the point of unrecognizability with added instrumentation that completely overpowers Lama Gyurme's vocal presentation. Other songs are the same. Also, the recording is not as good. So if you are thinking about which one to buy, I would personally recommend this CD over the other one. You really can't go wrong.

Yet another GREAT cd put out by two wonderful musicians. One, a Buddhist monk singing in the "deep voice" tradition. The other, a genious on the keyboards and with his ability to blend the music so as to compliment the voice without changing or overshadowing the messages. It is a two cd edition and every song relaxes and eases the spirit. It is also a most helpful meditation tool.
