technical, but useful and informative,

Guinard is too technical in spots, and those chapters go right over my head. Otherwise, this is a good introduction to brewing these rare brews. One thing is needed, a list of sources for the unusual ingredients, like aged hops. Altogether a good and useful treatise

If you are planning on brewing lambic beers this book is just about a must. There is a ton of information here and it will get you started on makeing one of the hardest styles of beer to brew at home.

So my first thoughts on buying this were why is this great book out of print? Is a $13 book worth the now hyped up $45- 55. It's a great book. It's focus is more to the wild Lambic/ Gueuze style beers, with little on the Oud Bruin and east Flanders red and Brown sour beers. Hopefully it will come back into print, for the masses, certainly with the sour beers becoming more and more popular. With this in mind, if it does not go into print again, it may only become harder and more expensive to buy. Maybe buy "Wild Brews" by Jeff Sparrow, this aslo is a awesome book, but at a fair price.

Excellent book on the history and chemistry of brewing Lambic beers. Unfortunately it is out of print. Too bad it looks like Brewers Publications isn't ever going to bring it back.

to be sure, an excellent book of the history of the brewing of these facinating beers. but, written in 1991 and dated, without mention of new liquid yeast cultures. also, the mashing techniques get glossed over. plus, one of the big components to these beers is time, and the author seems to believe that a suitable version can be brewed with these slow fermenting yeasts in a short time frame. definitely should be read if you are interested in these beers, but then to be followed up with "Wild Brews" and the liddl lambic lesson (online article) for more practical and modern information. after talking to the publisher, they may be re-releasing an update, and it would be much appreciated.
