Editorial Reviews

Double vinyl LP pressing. 2009 release, the third full-length album from the Flat Eric creator, Though the Flat Eric puppet character was used in a variety of Levis commercials, Oizo's music played a big part in the ads. Lambs Anger sees Quentin Dupieux taking even more inspiration from the Ed Banger crew and their signature treble-heavy sound. Laced with enough detours to stamp it out as a distinctively Oizo album, expect buzzing beats, catchy riffs and drones, mashed in with scratches, vocal Funk samples, bleeps and white noise. 17 tracks. Because. --This text refers to the Vinyl edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars This music is broke, February 28, 2009

Nasty, stinky beauty. Upon his first listen, my buddy called it 'scabby as hell'. Brave move after brave move, from the cheesy smoove-jazz head of 'Cut Dick' to all of the bad (as in good) retro square-wave lead lines, Oizo has created a bangin masterwork. Sans the down-tempo anthem work of 'Analogue Worms Attack' (all-time classic that it is), and more coherent than Mustache, Lambs Anger is a straight-up dance fair. It sick, wrong and beautiful. Thump album of the year if not this half of the decade.

3.0 out of 5 stars I like the lazy parts, May 14, 2009
This review is from: Lambs Anger (MP3 Download)
Mr. Oizo's last album, Moustache, was totally insane, high energy ADD awesome. This one, a lot of the time, sounds like it's trying to sound more extreme while dumbing things down. Yeah, the synths are louder and the melodies are in your face, but the beats are a lot slower and more plodding. It's just not as surprising, and aside from Gay Dentists, you can imagine people punching their fists in the air a lot but not actually going crazy very much. Even the Uffie track is way more restrained than the others Oizo has produced for her. My fav tracks on here are probably the slower tacky ones like Jo and Cut Dick, they are 100% catchy ear-cheese but they're fun because they aren't trying to be something else. To be fair, there is a lot of new stuff going on here for Oizo, new sounds that sound pretty sweet, but compared to his other albums it's hard to get as excited about this. For some really satisfying recent Oizo-crazy style tracks I think the Uffie singles and the LFO remix of Positif are a lot more worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars analog and moustache made a baby, February 26, 2009
This review is from: Lambs Anger (Audio CD)
I had heard a few songs on Oizo's myspace (z,positif, bruce willis is dead) and I couldn't wait to get the whole CD after hearing these songs. OH MY!!

If you liked the pure electronic beatyness of analog worms attack and the fresh absurdness of moustache/half a scissor, you will like a lot of songs on this CD. Some of the songs sound like they could have been left over for moustache(lambs garbage, lambs anger, lars von sen), but hey, thats cool with me- I love that CD. This CD is definitely more coherent than moustache, but you can still hear pieces of moustache in the sparkling/crackling perfectly timed electric funky-samples. There are some great pure electric dance cuts on here (pourriture 2+7, erreurjean(?), and gay dentists), and there are the fun/wierd ones that oizo is so good at (rank,jo,blind concerto). The only thing that make this album less than analog or moustache (IMO), is the guests on this album. I respect oizo and his choices for guests, but I feel like the album would have been better off with less or none. Steroids with Uffie is good; it is actually my favorite Uffie song, so its not terrible, but it is Uffie. Two take it is a waste of my time. It is the most un-oizo sounding song on the CD, but it is still better than some artist's whole careers. Gay dentists is by far my favorite song on the CD. It has the powerful electricity lead like one of the Pourritures and the best-funkiest sampling of the album. It feels like Gay Dentists is the fruit of Moustache's labor with Lamb's freshness and polish. This CD has my favorite Oizo songs on it but i can't let it play through like I can with Moustache so it is a really close call. better than "last night" and "m-seq", but still very close to "analog" and "moustache".

My favorite CD of '08 with v-Snare's "detrimentalist" very close.

If you like Mr. Oizo you will love him after chilling with this CD.

Moustache!
