5.0 out of 5 stars A good biscuit
These Lamello biscuits are pretty good. As a professional woodworker go through a few thousand of these things a year and so far these are the best I've used. There is some slight variation in thickness and occasionally one will be too tight to fit into the slot with hand pressure alone... however the variation is probably a result of the compression process and may in...

3.0 out of 5 stars Beechwood biscuits
These were not as good as I expected. Sure they do fit better than the Porter cable biscuits but it still isn't a snug fit. The only way that I have found that I can get a snug fit is by making it myself. The best biscuit fit that I can get is by soaking the Porter cable biscuits in water for 12 hours, then letting them dry. I tried this with these biscuits but they...

5.0 out of 5 stars A good biscuit, June 12, 2008

These Lamello biscuits are pretty good. As a professional woodworker go through a few thousand of these things a year and so far these are the best I've used. There is some slight variation in thickness and occasionally one will be too tight to fit into the slot with hand pressure alone... however the variation is probably a result of the compression process and may in fact be unavoidable. The best part though is that NONE of the biscuits have splinters! The entire biscuit is smooth and the edges seem to be sanded. The last box of Porter Cable biscuits I used had splinters that stuck out (caused by the compression process), and these splinters would catch on the edge of the joint and actually prevent the joint from closing tightly... as a result I had to hand inspect each one (quite a pain when using thousands of them) These Lamello ones do not have that problem and I can grab them right out of the box and put them in the slots.

The only way that I have found that I can get a snug fit is by making it myself. The best biscuit fit that I can get is by soaking the Porter cable biscuits in water for 12 hours, then letting them dry. I tried this with these biscuits but they expanded too much, and there was no way with all the pressure I applied that I was getting them in the slot. They are good biscuits though. I wish the price was cheaper on these. I should also note that I live in a very very dry region.

The biscuits are all uniform, none of them were broken. I used them for the first time, they fit well, their texture holds the glue well, and the joint was strong. They are packaged only in a cardboard box. When they arrived, I dumped them all into a 2 Gallon ziplock bag so that they wouldn't swell from humidity. I would buy these again.

Several years ago, I wondered if my Porter-Cable biscuit joiner was wearing out. I started checking the Porter-Cable biscuits that I had with a micrometer. The biscuit thicknesses were all over the place. Not very consistent. Lamello biscuits are consistently the same thickness every time I pick one up. I don't worry about loose joints anymore. They work good and I will continue using them.
