90's Rez Band. Not as raw as earlier, but more polished and rocks hard!

This is great rock and roll whether you count yourself among the faithful (I don't) or not. This is not a "preachy" album, unless you consider heartfelt spiritual questing to be "preaching." Just as rock music, this album is an achievement, it may be the first time since the seventies that Rez has put together an album that was truly an "album" rather than just a collection of songs. There is a concept and a feeling that runs thru the entire work. Sort of Deep Purple meets Joe Cocker with a little grunge twinge. Very creative, as always top notch composition.

Resurrection Band has been at the forefront of Christian music since the late seventies, when it was more than a marketable commodity. This album is not only their best work but it encapsulates, through Ty Tabor's brilliant production, the songwriting and musicianship of these veteran rockers. It is a 70s style concept album that never strays from its central theme of the loneliness and longing of our youth, and the consequences of choices made. From the opening strains of Glenn Kaiser's soulful voice you are pulled into an emotional rollercoaster of searing guitars and heartfelt vocals. The songs are tied together with "Beatlesque" effects that give the album a fluid ethereal quality. Lament is without a doubt one of the most artistically crafted hard rock albums in recent years.

From the opening chords of "Parting Glance" to the last ones of "Across These Fields Reprise", you'll be hooked. Now this cd can take a time or two through for you to grab the whole thing, but it's amazing. Ty Tabor has taken this amazing band and turned them into a mega-band with this one cd. This was the first "Rez" cd I ever bought, and I bought it primarily because of Ty's involvement, but it has remained one of my top 10 Christian cd's of all time. The lyrics are incredible all the way through ("Dark Carnival" and "Richest One" are my favorites), and the vocals are great. On a normal Rez cd, the vocals are split up between Glenn Kaiser and his wife, but in this one they are handled almost exclusively by Glenn (she sings lead in only one song). Honestly, if you have a long drive ahead and can listen from beginning to end, you'll be hooked forever. Another reviewer said this was "Rush meets King's X" and I have to agree. Highly recommended!

This album will grow on you, I can't believe how EXCELLENT it is. This is a "HEADPHONES-ONLY" kind of concept album. You will miss alot if you just use your speakers... Ty Tabor has taken the Rez Band and produced a Rush meets King's X masterpeice. Great lyrics! The concept (if I'm correct) is the story of a young man who rejects his family's beliefs and values, goes out into the world and does all there is to do and finds that his parents were right!

A couple years ago I realised that I did not have any Rez CD's even though in the past I had enjoyed some of their stuff immensely. So I decided to pick up their last album - which I had never heard.

When I listened to it at the time I was shocked at how indifferent it was - I imagined this one would be a grower. Eventually I put it away but every 6-8 months I have pulled it out from the stack to much the same feeling.

Yesterday I did it again, in hopes that something might have changed. Unfortunately it has not!

The fact of the matter is, the songs are all really median slow rock, totally uncharacteristic with what they have done in the past! I was listening to the song "Summerthrow", and later "Mirror" and thinking "boy this really reeks of King's X" - which is a band I don't particularly care for. So I hit the liner notes and - lo and behold - there's Ty Tabor as the producer! Isn't it a producer's role to bring out what's best about a band rather than make them sound like him??

I will admit that there are a couple of good songs: "Dark Carnival" and "Richest man" come to mind. But nothing fabulous like "Love Comes Down" or "Where Roses Grow" (or really, most stuff in "Silence Screams", "Innocent Blood" or "Civil rites"). I couldn't find a truly memorable solo and even Glen Kaiser's (who is a powerhouse of a singer to me!) voice sounds strangely powerless and subsumed here.

Is it an awful album? Of course not... But it is an awful album to have as your last one after such a great discography. Such a shame.
