Biography

Ultravox is a British New Wave rock band. They were one of the primary exponents of the British electronic pop music movement of the late 1970s/early 1980s. The band was particularly associated with the New Romantic and New Wave movements.
This band was effectively led by two different individuals in its career, two frontmen who, curiously, never played together in the band at the same time. From… Read more in Amazon's Ultravox Store

Editorial Reviews

Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of the UK band's 1984 album includes a bonus disc of remixes, some of which are previously unreleased. Lament was the band's seventh full album and the fourth from the band's most-recognizable Midge Ure-fronted incarnation. It was also the last album featuring original drummer Warren Cann. The album peaked at #8 on the UK album chart and was certified Gold. The album's sound saw the band continuing to move away from the Synthpop style associated with their previous albums, heading into a more mainstream Pop/Rock direction, similar to contemporaries such Echo and the Bunnymen, Simple Minds and U2, featuring greater use of guitar and 'stadium' reverb. Features 'Dancing With Tears In My Eyes', 'One Small Day', 'White China' and more. EMI. 2009. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my first "must haves", April 12, 2003

This review is from: Lament (Audio CD)
I bought this album on vinyl in 1985. The album is a work of pure art. Mid-eighties guitar-based electronic with complex weaved sub-melodies worked into the main themes of each song. I strongly recommend listening through headphones to truly capture the left and right channel isolation within each song. As with all Ultravox offerings, they were on the cutting edge of their time. The listening experience reflects a treat for the listener that I am sorry to say reflects a listener-based attention that has not been approached since the time period in which this album was released. Everything from the chord progression to the left/right diametrics lead to a fully satisfying listening experience. I can count on one hand the number of albums (or bands) that pay this much attention to their work. I liked this album when i bought it. After 4 or 5 listens I grew to love it. After 2 years of owning and listening to it, I grew to worship it. To this day, I find new stuff hidden that I never heard before.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST, November 20, 1998
This review is from: Lament (Audio CD)
THE Ultravox's album to have if you can only chose one . One of the best new wave records from the 80's . Dancing With Tears In My Eyes , White China , When The Time Comes are absolutely brilliant examples of what electronics can do combined with unique vocals by Midge Ure . The title track - Lament , which is my personal all time favorite will make you want to listen to it again and again and again . Man Of Two Worlds and The Heart Of The Country will show you that not all electropop is impersonal and cold . To make a long story short : don't miss out , get the album and enjoy this pearl from U-Vox !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lament [UK Bonus Tracks] ~ Ultravox, July 28, 2005

This being the fourth from the amazing new wave band Ultravox is a great new wave/synth pop/pop album. They scored three hits with the tracks 'Lament', 'One Small Day' & 'Dancing With Tears In My Eyes'. I love the sounds selected on this album and this is quite important for electronic music as picking the wrong sound can ruin an otherwise excellent song. This is an album not to be missed. I highly recommend it and easily give it 5 out of 5 stars.
