Well deserved of Rosette,
By dm "danmc15" (rochester, ny) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lamentations: White; Tallis; Palestrina (Audio CD)
This CD earned a rosette from the Penguin guide, and deservedly so. The sound quality, as usual for a Naxos release, is perfect, and the performances are wonderful. My only complaint, and I guess it could definitely be a big minus for many, is the lack of text and limited notes. Of course, Naxos is a budget label and it's assumed that liner notes and texts will be limited to keep down costs. Just keep this in mind when purchasing.

Okay as a sampler,

This review is from: Lamentations: White; Tallis; Palestrina (Audio CD)
This CD doesn't include texts (unusual for Naxos, despite the bargain price). This isn't a major problem as anyone can download the whole text of Lamentations from any of the several sites offering the Vulgate on the Web, but you will still need patience and a quick ear to work out which track corresponds to which set of verses. The best versions of the Lamentations are probably Hilliard Ensemble on ECM for Tallis, Tallis Scholars for White, Herreweghe for Lassus.
