Several companies make pens like this, with four little penlets in the barrel. First I tried the Rotring version, which is usually only a bit cheaper. Faugh. The Rotrings last an average of 5 months, after which the clip wears out and falls off--this happened to me not once, not twice, but three times (OK, so I finally wised up). And the Rotring refills are of very poor quality compared to the Lamy, they skip a lot.Takes a bit of getting used to the pen so you open the right penlet each time, but not a big problem. The four penlet sockets inside will each take any of the available penlets, so you can use the default (black ballpoint pen, orange pen [not really a "highligher" just a bright orange ballpoint], Palm stylus, and mechanical pencil; or you could replace the orange penlet with red, blue, or whatever. Best pen I've had.

Probably the Best 4x1 or 4 in 1 Multipen Available (Silver version),

First, a correction to one of the reviews. The Lamy 4pens are still in the Lamy product list, at:[...] but as a hobby, I've collecte a lot of 3 and 4 function pens. It's a subjective judgement, everyone has their own criteria, and there are some able competitors, but this is certainly one of the best, if not the best. Many of the 4 (and so far all of the 5) function pens are made in Japan by a company that has various US names, Yafa/Platinum/etc., and they are well made pens, but this particular Lamy variant is better: * More solid construction throughout (clip, cap, etc.) * Better barrel material (particularly the silver variant, easy-to-hold) * Better heft (here that's personal choice, it's not-too-light) * Better retraction mechanism (metal button on the side) The Lamy refills are also top-notch, not quite as fine lined as others, but they do not skip, and while you can buy Lamy and put them in other multipens, at least with this one, you start there. The stylus has a good point, not too dull, not sharp enough to scratch through PDA/phone screens or plastic overlays. The pencil is 0.7mm, a bit thicker than the typical 0.5mm, but less likely to break, still very fine. This is an exceptional pen, avoids the pocket-protector syndrome of carrying multiple pens, avoids entirely the geek look (or more accurately, maybe you end up being the uber-geek, the true insider pen).

This is the 2nd one (first was stolen), so I've spent $160 on this pen because it is that good. I've had others and liked the Rotring(sp?) which was a good bang for the buck, but it is discontinued. Everything works and the ink is good quality. Nice heavy feel with good balance. Very durable as well - doesn't scratch or mar easily. If it were less than $25 bucks I'd buy all my employees one for Christmas like I did with the Rotring.

Very useful and beautiful pen! This pen is as useful as beautiful! It is my first Lamy, but I think won't be the last one. Hight quality and very finished product. I recommend this pen for every one who likes to write by hand. I just would like to share one point, the Touchscreen pen doesn't work on capacitive screen it just works on resistive screen.

I've owned multi-function pens from several manufacturers over the years. This is by far the best in terms of quality and ease of use. The Lamy black ballpoint ink is smooth and dark. The pencil, highlighter, and stylus are also excellent. This was an expensive purchase for me, but it has been well worth it.

I always carry a high quality pen on me at all time.I like them rugged (I started buying these type of pens in my first year University) and dependable. I have tried many other pens from other brands like Parker or ROTRING (my favorite until I got the LAMY). The LAMY feels more solid/rugged in hand. There is something about the mechanism that tells you "I will do the job, always" every time you use it. It holds great in your hand. The grippy rubber is nice to touch (smells a little sometime, though). The "Highlighter" is kind of in-between a ball pen and a real highlighter, which was puzzling at the beginning but I quickly realized that it's GREAT! When you mark something with it, your eyes are promptly drawn to the marked section, which is what I want from a highlighter. And you don't need to write over the text to achieve that goal. The ball points are very descent. Not the best I ever used but certainly one of my top 3 ball points. All in all, The LAMY Accent is the best Multifunction pen I have used so far.
