This product does exactly what it should. No extra bells or whistles, and no buying extra ink cartridges.
These are very easy to use and refill - no mess, no inky fingers! Just dip the end into the ink bottle, then twist the red bit to move the plunger up and suck up the ink. Then it snaps right into the pen's barrel.
No leaks, no empty cartridge waste, and it lets you use whatever ink you like. (I'm smitten with Pelikan Brilliant Black.)
I gave this product 3 stars for a couple of reasons. The most important is the fact that the converter doesn't hold a lot of ink. I don't think it holds even half of the ink that comes in Lamy's cartridges. For me, this is fine because I don't buy ink cartridges. However, it is a real pain to fill this pen daily (full-time student). Since I originally intended to use the Safari with this converter I'm really disappointed. I've already found a replacement pen for that purpose. If they had designed this converter to utilize more of the space in the barrel that would have added at least one star to my review.
My other complaint about this converter is that there's always a pretty large air bubble after filling, no matter how careful I am. I don't know if this is truly a design flaw, or user error. I would like to imagine I know how to fill these things the right way since this isn't the only converter I have, but whatever...
So, this is still a decent value for the price of the pen and converter combined, but there are other fountain pens available for comparable prices that have larger converters. It's just something the company should consider.
Edited 12/2010 to add: Currently, seller Pen Boutique IS offering this item with free shipping. They are a proven seller that I've had several good experiences with both directly and through Amazon. I would recommend you purchase from them if Amazon Prime is not offering this item.
Cons: does not hold as much ink as a cartridge so I end up refilling it about once a week or so.
All in all, I like it and have been using it for 2 months now with no problems. I have no reason to go back to cartridges, so I will keep using it!

This converter is easy to use, and has the perfect amount of ink for my uses. The ink lasts about a week for me due to school, even less if I have long notes or letters to write. Read morePublished 20 days ago by Tanya S.
