5.0 out of 5 stars Little known *inbetween book* from Lance Armstrong's War and The Secret Race
As Lance Armstrong's War was mostly positive in the authors eyes and The Secret Race was very damning in his eyes, Lance Armstrong tour de force (this books full title) is right in between. Coyle was given over a years access to the most intimate aspects of Lance Armstrong's life. Pretty much nothing was off limits. You can see that the author writes about all the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Its a fair look at the character and the time.
Looking back, this is probably a fair report. Mr. Coyle was clearly fascinated by the race and a little bit caught up by Lance Armstrong's aura. I think he did a credible job of reporting the facts, and hinting around the doping issues even while no evidence existed (YET). Reading between the lines a bit, I don't think he fully bought in.

Most other books written around this time bought the whole Lance Armstrong "miracle" story. Without addressing any of the other issues involved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Little known *inbetween book* from Lance Armstrong's War and The Secret Race, October 13, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
You can see that the author writes about all the behind the scene stuff ( which is a lot of nice info and tidbits about Lance that weren't regurgitated like in other books). But this book is the start of Colye's footnotes. You can tell that even though he is a fan of Lance, his views are starting to cast doubt in this 2004 book about his 6th Tour De France win. It's almost like he was side eyeing Armstrong and peeking around corners the whole time he was taking note for the book, trying to catch him at something dishonest (he didn't -even with virtually unprecedented access).

Basically, If you're a Lance fan and you have every other book out there besides this one, you should get it. This has to be in the top 3 books about Lance Armstrong that Lance himself did not write.

I hope this helps.
