This review is from: In the Land of Art (Audio CD)
Frank Carlberg is a great pianist and a truly playful composer.
Using texts of great beat poets such as Jack Kerouac, Kenneth Rexroth, Samuel Beckett, and the lesser known genius Anslem Hollo (to name a few), Carlberg and his wife, the great vocalist Christine Correa, collectively convey their musicality and their dark sense of humor. They, as well as the other musicians, each spectacular, have the wonderful ability to truly communicate through jazz/improvisation. Every note has a purpose. Not a phrase is too arrogant. It is highly artistic music that doesn't take itself too seriously. I hope this group is going to record more music like this. It's downright amazing. |
