An underrated gem.,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Land Before Time IV - Journey Through the Mists [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This underrated sequel is obviously the best of the movies in the series. The trouble with this movie is that with all the "I HATE THIS MOVIE" hubbub, and the "I LOVE THE SIXTH MOVIE" hubbub, you'd think that this movie was a crime. The Land Before Time 6 was a failure because it tried to make the characters( especially Ducky and Littlefoot )more mature, and failed miserably. But, in this underrated classic, none of the characters are out of character, like in the 6th movie. Let me give you a summary about this movie. Okay, here goes nothin'...
Littlefoot, Cera, and the gang play some fun games. In the middle of playing "Hide and Seek", Littlefoot meets another young apatosaurus named Ali, who he befriends right away. When he and Ali come back, Ducky notices that there are "two Littlefoots". Ali is shy, so she and Littlefoot walk away. Cera and the others laugh and mock Ali. Then, one night, Grandpa feels very ill, and collapses. The Old One, oldest and wisest of the longnecks, says that the cure for his disease is found in The Land Of Mists( Ali's folks were forced out of their original homes ). Littlefoot and Ali decide to venture off to the Mists to help Grandpa. Next morning, Littlefoot's friends can't find him anywhere. Where did he go? They don't know, until they find out that he and Ali have ventured off to The Land Of Mists. They decide to go there and find Littlefoot. But two sinister predators, Ichy and Dil, are on the prowl... An amazing piece of work. This movie marks the first( and hopefully not last )appearance of Ali the apatosaurus, Tickles the megazostrodon, Ichy the avimimus, and Dil the deinosuchus. It also has beautiful songs( "Grandma's Lullaby" and "It Takes All Sorts" are two tear-jerkers of songs )and a hilarious, yet somewhat inappropriate song( "Who Needs You?" is good, but at one point, one of them actually says,"I need you like a kick in the butt!" Is this language really necessary? ). The movie has beautiful animation, beautiful songs, a beautiful story, and beautiful characters. Go out and buy it today. It's worth it. P.S., Spike says his first word in this movie! Want to know what it is? HINT: It's the name of the character who experiences a near-death scene. P.P.S., Ozzy and Strut, the two struthiomimuses from the second movie, make a brief cameo! They are found in The Land Of Mists for a second. Look closely!

Quit Your Complaining About Villains!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Land Before Time IV - Journey Through the Mists [VHS] (VHS Tape)
this is a great movie - and i love it. it's the best adventure yet. the songs are not annoying, like in the other movies. the story plot is great, and the lesson taught deals with one of the biggest issues ever - racism and accepting each other's differences. 'grandma's lullaby' is fantastic, though 'it takes all sorts' isn't so hot. the night flower scene is beautiful, and if you hate the bad guys, then hate them. they're not the centre of attention in the movie; you know. they're portrayed as mean because they are bad, and bad people are usually mean. they're bad guys, okay? don't expect bad guys to be nice to each other. besides, the film does not portray being MEAN as being successful, as you will see in the end, when the bad guys get just as they deserve. this film, unlike the other movies, actually has some suspense, so it's not good only for children. and if you have a problem against the bad guys being a bird and a crocodile instead of sharpteeth, TOUGH LUCK. it's a nice change of species, since not all enemies of the dinosaurs were other dinosaurs. and this does not mean non-dinosaurs are baddies. the mouse is their friend.

We love the entire Land Before Time Series. It has remained our favorite "staying home sick" video series from the time my 14 year old was really little until today. I can still enjoy watching it as well--so many animated series are nauseatingly sweet or insultingly simplistic. This one remains entertaining.

In this film, Littlefoot's grandpa gets sick with a fever. The only cure is for him to eat a golden nightflower. But there's a problem; it grows in "The Land of Mists", a place off limits to all dinos. Of course, dear old grandpa can't die can he? So Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, Spike, and their new friend Ali, set off to find the golden flower. Which they do (while dodging a few obstacles along the way). Nightflower found? Check. Grandpa lives? Check. Overall, it's a cute, fun little movie that the kids will probably enjoy. Ignore those two bad guys though...
