This review is from: The Land of Curiosities (Book 2)): Lost in Yellowstone, 1872-1873 (Land of Curiosities (the Ecoseekers Collection)) (Paperback)
I loved book one and book two is even better. It stands alone as a great story as well as a great sequel. The writing is crisp, the story is exciting and the character development is insightful. Introducing the Indian population in Yellowstone into the narrative is very interesting and beautifully accomplished. Alice and James' adventure is based in so much real history and ecological sensibility that you will learn a great deal while you avidly turn each page! Quite a triumph.

5.0 out of 5 stars great follow up to Book 1!!, December 7, 2009
This review is from: The Land of Curiosities (Book 2)): Lost in Yellowstone, 1872-1873 (Land of Curiosities (the Ecoseekers Collection)) (Paperback)
Children's author Deanna Neil keeps getting better! The characters in this eco-adventure series take on a lot of emotional depth in this second volume. This is is a welcome compliment to the intricately constructed story. I also thought she did a great job weaving historical information into her fictional account of 19th-century Yellowstone Park. The historical appendix at the end of the book also was quite interesting and well-presented.

I read the first novel with fourth graders and they were jumping off the edge of their seats when it ended. This is a fantastic follow up. The details about life with Native Americans, as well as the new bond between Alice and Red are great. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. James and Tom really grow up, and the history is rich and a delight to read. Fun and exciting historical fiction read for anyone from 4th grade to adult!
