Presenting a special adaptation of George Romero's long-awaited zombie movie set years in the future after the end of his Dead trilogy. In Land of the Dead, the walking dead roam an uninhabited wasteland and the living try to lead "normal" lives behind the walls of a fortified city. A new society has been built by a handful of enterprising, ruthless opportunists, who live in the towers of a skyscraper, high above the hard-scrabble existence on the streets below. But outside the city walls, an army of the dead is evolving. Inside, anarchy is on the rise. With the very survival of the city at stake, a group of hardened mercenaries is called into action to protect the living from an army of the dead.

Prior to all of this, I served as Editor-in-Chief for filmmaker Kevin Smith's entertainment Web portal for four years; was a corporate speechwriter for American Honda; a creative executive with Dick Clark Communications; and an advertising copywriter. In 2010, I wrote the text for Oakley's "Legion of Oakley" advertising comic book campaign and Web site.
I'm based in San Diego, where I live with my wife Julie, daughter Lucy, a cat, Pablo, and my adopted second child, who I call MacBook Pro.
I have been a faithful fan of George Romero for longer than I can remember. The film Land of the Dead is classic Romero, and I am happy to report that this graphic novel captures the events of the film beautifully! Well, what more can I say? This graphic novel ROCKS!

I think I'm just biased toward the movie, but I feel the adaption this time around fell short in alot of ways. To start, the art is very much a stylized comic book much like their Dawn of the Dead Adaption which is ok by me. But after viewing the cover gallery it made me wonder why they didn't use the same style like 30 Days of Night, grainy and gritty oil painting and CG enhanced sections with line drawing.
Despite staying true to Romero, the editing is quite choppy in places making a confusing read at first. It feels like they were going to separate the sections using the cover art gallery, which would've make it easier and more suspensful like the Evil Dead adaption, but opted not to. Being a Romero adaption, the gore this time around was on the minimalist side, though you still get that awesome shot of that soldier getting his spine ripped out.
On the upside, the cover art gallery really saves the day and there is incredible oil painting of Dead Reckoning blasting a hole through zombie's brain, which in my opinion would've made a great shot in the story. All in all, it's pretty true to the movie's original screenplay from which its based on, not to be confused with the final movie as I made that mistake. In all, after reading it a second time it kind of grows on you and that's why I think it deserves four stars for the efforts.
