First of all, I gave this game 5 stars across the board. Evidently Amazon didn't believe me when I clicked on 5 stars. Anyway, I think it was $20 well spent. If you like the "Dead" movies and are into zombies, your gonna love this game. If your planning on spending the $20 and expecting to get into the "high rent" district, ain't gonna happen. But, the graphics are cool, the music draws you in and the overall ambiance of the game is all there. Yeah, you have to shoot a few of them several times in the head but remember, you have to shoot them in the brain, not just in the head. So, I have no complaints. It's fun and it's a great game, not a $500 watch. So get the game and turn out the lights, draw down the shades and pull up your favorite chair in front of the screen 'cause your in for a treat.

I really enjoyed the game. It had a retro old-school budget gaming feel. Very strong in the basics of shooting zombies, blowing `em up, chopping them down, and being always close to the edge of getting overwhelmed.
Your character is a ordinary farmer who finds himself faced with zombies and at first very little in the way of weapons to deal with them. He does acquire more powerful weapons but he's never going to be a supersoldier; you become aware that he can sprint only in short bursts and his weapon skills never guarantee that even his carefully aimed shots will always bring the enemy down. I'd recommend Land of the Dead for someone looking for solid, no frills fun. It doesn't have the detailed gameplay of far more expensive games but it delivers the videogame equivalent of those low-budget zombie movies: shuffling zombies, a variety of weapons, desperate situations, and a very slender "plot." I particularly liked the level where you need to protect your partner as he sprints through a zombie-filled street and parking lot in order to commandeer a truck: you provide covering fire from a nearby rooftop using a sniper rifle. You've got to do some good shooting or... Is it perfect? No. It's no RE4 or Half Life 2. However comparing Land of the Dead to those games would be like comparing a very low-budget (but still entertaining) movie to a major Hollywood production costing thirty times more to make. If you don't mind some rough edges, you could find this game right up your alley.

Why is this game only 20 bucks?!!!,

I played the demo and immediately bought the game. The ambience created by the music, sounds, and graphics make you want to keep the lights on while playing! Contrary to what the other reviews say the zombies can be killed with a "well aimed" head shot but it's kind of hard to aim when them bastards are swarming you! Body damage on the zombies is realistic. Don't turn your back on a zombie just because you blew off it's leg, it can and does crawl after you! Subtle touches of humor and irony add to the game. The controls are Unreal Tournament smooth. The levels are painstakingly designed and don't feel redundant. As you progress through the game you go from panicky newbie to stone cold zombie slayer, but you'll still keep the lights on!!! This is the game to get for the true zombie enthusiast. I can't believe this game is only 20 bucks!!!

well this is just a review based upon what i have seen through the demo.
for a 20 dollar game its impressive and looking at the screen shots as well as watching people play the demo it looks and sounds great. i mean if you look at the product specs and the money you are shelling out for it its way worth it. i am a hard core gamer and since i am on va disability i have more time on my hands so i play alot of games. there is like 20 levels to the game and i think if i remember right that there is like 4 different multiplayer modes to play as well. i am a big fan of the night of the living dead series and i am a big time player of resident evil games so this one is right up my alley. waiting on the game patiently for it to arrive then t will be zombie mayhem. i have to say one more thing the zombies in this game look alot better than whats in resident evil games. also think this game will be a sleeper then gem once more people find the game and play it but what i seen no complaints on my end just waiting to hunt those zombies.

This is a "budget" title with a lot of entertainment value (if you are into zombies or horror games) for your money. If you like PC shooters in general, then you will enjoy "Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green" -- and it does not require the latest and greatest computer/video card to run well either. Certainly this game is much (much!) better than the horribly feeble movie "George A. Romero's Land of the Dead" this game was spawned from...

I really do still love this game though and I would recommend everyone who loves zombies to buy this game. The only downfall with this game is that it was beat by me in 3 hours on normal and in 2 hours on hard. Still I have played it several times and like I said I really enjoyed it. word of advice for people who are using XP or better if you cant get the game to work because you are getting a error code right click on the shortcut on your desktop and click on properties and then click on compatibility and then check run compatibility mode of windows 98/me and it works fine. Also apparently the game maker is out of business cause I tried to contact them and tried to go onto their website but it was no good.

If you like zombie movies or zombie games, you'll like this game. It's obvious it doesn't match the stellar graphics of most current fps's now, it matches them in gameplay. And the gameplay fits the atmosphere perfectly. The environments are believable with mundane objects of everyday life. That's important because the mood is set with the tense music and frightening creatures. The developers did a great job of creeping the crap of me by the zombies' sounds and attacks. They're unpredictable. At one moment, they're standing or walking slowly then they come at you at lightning speed. I've never played a game in which the monsters have scared me so much. People talk about being scared by the monsters and zombies in Doom 3. I always knew Doom 3 was just a game when I played it. In this game, the tension is real and I was always on edge to keep the zombies away from me. A shame the developers couldn't have spend a little more time cleaning up the graphics and eliminating some of the few bugs in the game. But the game is definately worth the money. Try it.

The best thing about LOTD: Road to Fiddler's Green is that once you install the game you DON'T need to use the disc to play. The game is always in your computer and you don't have to tote around a bunch of CDs to play. Otherwise, it's a pretty typical maps & mazes shoot 'em up game with a few cool twists and turns. Make sure to open and search everything you can, try out all the weapons you find and decide which works best for you. Only complaint is that it could have been made to play longer, but if you increase the difficulty then things get more interesting. Well worth the purchase price.

If the price is right ($15 or less), this is an ok game. The graphics were annoyingly low contrast in the darker settings (which is most of the time).
Weapons included a couple of pistols, a .22 caliber rifle, a shot gun, an M16, a sniper rifle (my favorite), Molotov Cocktails, and grenades. In addition, there are shovels, baseball bats, lead pipes, etc for you to use in hand-to-hand combat. Settings included a garage, sewer, hospital, and high-rise apartment building. Health and ammo were fairly abundant (at least on the medium difficulty), but it got a little old having to search every desk and cabinet for them. At the medium difficulty it was not particularly challenging, but it was acceptable and reasonably entertaining. Overall, I'd say it was on the low end of average for a 2005 game and it's one of the shortest games I've played in a while. I got this new elsewhere for $13 plus shipping. If you pay much for this game, you will probably be disappointed. |
