This review is from: Land of The Freaks (Audio CD)
Freak Kitchen are a trio of amazing musicians from Sweden that play a style of progressive metal that is full of virtuoso musical technique combined with quirky lyrics. They fuse styles such as metal, pop, and jazz into brilliant compositions that will boggle your mind if you're a musician and at least highly entertain you if you're not. The only other artist that I can compare them to is guitar player Bumblefoot whose solo albums are in a similar style. Land Of The Freaks is their most recent album and it is a killer example of what these guys have been doing for nearly 20 years. The whole album is stunning but some highlights include the intense sound of "The Only Way", the unique groove of "Honey You're A Nazi", the amazing musical skill of "Teargas Jazz", and the pop/metal groove of "God Save The Spleen". Lead by the mind blowing guitar talents of Mattias "IA" Eklundh, Freak Kitchen are a band that has to be heard to be believed. The guitar playing is so unique and the solos are really fantastic. Land Of The Freaks is essential listening for Freak Kitchen fans and is also highly recommended to fans of Bumblefoot, Steve Vai, and other virtuoso guitar based music.
