5.0 out of 5 stars This book contains all the stories from two previous books
Please note that In the Land of the Lawn Weenies contains all the stories from my two previous Psychozone collections -- Kidzilla and Other Tales and The Witch's Monkey and Other Tales. If you plan to buy this book, you do not need to get the Psychozone books (unless you want them for the awesome cover art). I would hate to think that someone might unknowingly or...

1.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't stand it
I have to say, I read only one story. But that was enough. It must have been the 8th story, since a child died in this one as someone else mentioned. This book reminded me of Pulp Fiction-type movies. I actually found Pulp Fiction hilarious, but it is not what I want my 8 year old son immersed in. The cynicism and violence, to me, is just not what children's...

P.S. I feel funny rating my book, but the software won't let me post this without a rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars In the Land of the Lawn Weenies: Review by Jon G., May 24, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: In the Land of the Lawn Weenies: and Other Warped and Creepy Tales (Starscape) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is one of the best books I've read in a long, long time. The stories are funny and scary at the same time. How does David Lubar write these kinds of stories? They're incredible!

5.0 out of 5 stars Make kids cringe with a book of kid-horror that blows all other kid-horror away(maybe with Roald Dahl excepted)., November 5, 2005
This review is from: In the Land of the Lawn Weenies: and Other Warped and Creepy Tales (Starscape) (Mass Market Paperback)
Mr. Lubar is no Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, rather that gaining insight the protagonists here are more likely to get the axe. My students love the exploding cows and the dad who is a sudden self-amputee. Good messy fun. Oh, and by the way, all the kids that get it in the end are rather unpleasant to begin with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!!!, November 29, 2007
This review is from: In the Land of the Lawn Weenies: and Other Warped and Creepy Tales (Starscape) (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book for my 11 year old daughter. She loved it so much that she read the whole thing in a week! On our trip she would stop and read me stories. David Lubar has a way of intriguing and entertaining my daughter and that causes her to read more and watch less TV.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: In the Land of the Lawn Weenies: and Other Warped and Creepy Tales (Starscape) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book has many stories of other kids' lives. Anyway these kids can be real monsters, literally. In one story the kids lift someone into the air, and he keeps going higher and higher then they all start floating. The book is In the Land of the Lawn Weenies.

I thought of this book as a weird fiction book. It doesn't make sense but, it's funny and really is a good book once you get into it enough to understand it, but it is a little confusing because it switches stories ever 5-6 pages. I don't care for the cliffhangers that are on it. I really want to find out the rest of those stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars It scared me, March 15, 2007
This review is from: In the Land of the Lawn Weenies: and Other Warped and Creepy Tales (Starscape) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book made me afraid to sleep at night, especially "Crizzles". It just creeped me out. However, this is a great book and don't let my weak nerves deter you from reading this. It's written very well and has great charecters. Like the kid in the centipedes story.

On a side note, "The Road Weenies" wasn't nearly as creepy because no one died, I liked this one better

I use these stories as class starters in my 7th grade English class. The kids can't get enough of them. They are great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for read-alouds!, September 10, 2008
This review is from: In the Land of the Lawn Weenies: and Other Warped and Creepy Tales (Starscape) (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm an elementary school librarian, working with grades 3-6. I have been trying to involve my older students in read-alouds since I started (not even a year ago). I found a copy of this book and decided to use each story as a read-aloud to my 5th and 6th grade students. Their response? They LOVED the book. At the start of this new school year, the majority of the 6th graders asked when we would read "Lawn Weenies" again. When I told my students that I had ordered more books in the series, they were thrilled!

Some people might think that this series of books is too scary or not relevant to coursework. In my experience, I strongly disagree. There are moral issues and plenty of opportunity for discussion. Aside from that, I turned about 200 kids into fans of this author, as well as myself. Not too bad. =)

5.0 out of 5 stars A lot of scary fun, October 13, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: In the Land of the Lawn Weenies: and Other Warped and Creepy Tales (Starscape) (Mass Market Paperback)
These stories are very funny and also pretty scary. One of the quotes in the back of the book said that the stories were like TWILIGHT ZONE for kids and that is exactly right. The stories aren't very long and they are fun to read, too. The creepy thing is how believeable they are! Read this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny!, June 6, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: In the Land of the Lawn Weenies: and Other Warped and Creepy Tales (Starscape) (Mass Market Paperback)
In the Land of the Lawn Weenies is a funny and yet, a little scary, type of book. Each chapter is like another story, as each of them tells you about different creepy tales. Dave Lubar is good at telling or writing stories. I read one chapter every night. My favorite chapter is "Crizzles". The story is about a grandpa telling his grandson and his grandsons friend a story about crizzles. "Grandpa said 'Crizzles look just like you or me,' then he pointed to danny (his grandson)' but on the inside they are all cold and hungry.'" Then he offers the guest to take a walk with him, of course he refuses after his story, so he stays with his friend. Then when his grandpa left he said "What a creepy story", and that crizzles sound pretty scary to danny. Danny then said that him and his grandpa were both crizzles and tonight it was dannys turn. "His face started melted away like wax."
