5.0 out of 5 stars The music I want to hear when I'm dead
An odd title for a review, perhaps, but true none-the-less. As I am lowered into the grave, let a solitary piper play "Dream Angus" and I will rest content. The Weavers have captured something on a very visceral level here; while some of the songs are tongue-in-cheek and some are quite energetic, all tap into an undercurrent of longing that is so much a part...

3.0 out of 5 stars Land of Light
The album is ok, but not up to the standards of Capernaum or Cullen Bay.
On some songs the pipes distract from the lyrics by playing the same notes in the same pattern over and over without apparent reason.

An odd title for a review, perhaps, but true none-the-less. As I am lowered into the grave, let a solitary piper play "Dream Angus" and I will rest content. The Weavers have captured something on a very visceral level here; while some of the songs are tongue-in-cheek and some are quite energetic, all tap into an undercurrent of longing that is so much a part of the Celtic soul. If you want music that will make you misty-eyed, buy this album. If you want music that will make you dance with anticipation of what the new day holds, buy this album. If you want music that will make you want to cross the border and steal English cattle, buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music From Amang The Heather, June 3, 2011

This album is simply brilliant. It has remained a personal favorite for over twenty years. A perfect mixture of traditional Scottish folk music and well composed originals with a modern delivery that goes far beyond the 1985 date of release. A perfect blend of upbeat instrumentals, moving ballads and music that's just fun. If you are stirred by Celtic music, this is a must, but this might also appeal to fans of Jethro Tull, certainly Fairport Convention, and possibly Tesla. The accoustic guitars are quite heavy at times, and the pipes easily replace guitar solos, absolutely mesmerizing and able to take you on a journey comparable to psychedelic and progressive rock. This is not rock'n'roll, but it jams. This band is made up of excellent musicians and the lead and harmony vocals are perfectly suited to this style of music (not too far from Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull). An amazing musical experience that shouldn't be missed.
