5.0 out of 5 stars Land of the Lost should have had as many seasons as "Gunsmoke"
This 3rd and final season of Land of the Lost reminded me a lot of Gilligan's Island. Why? People just kept showing up every week our of the blue and Will, Holly and Uncle Jack just treated that as normal. They also never figured out how to get back home.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rhino vs Universal, June 1, 2011

This review is from: Land of the Lost: Season 3 (DVD)
I was born in 1973, so of course I grew up watching Land Of The Lost and loved it! A few years ago, I was elated to learn that this series was now available in a DVD collection, by Rhino. I bought the complete first season and enjoyed reliving my childhood. However, recently I tried to purchase season 2 and 3 and ran into a dilemma. I had the choice of buying the remaining seasons from the Rhino collection, as before, or from a new collection put out by Universal Studios. I searched all the reviews on Amazon to determine which release was better and to make sure the new Universal releases had good special features like all the commentary the Rhino releases had, but could not find one review that would say one way or the other. I finally gambled and went with the newer releases by Universal because they had better looking covers compared to the Rhino releases and I was thinking "newer release should equal better." I quickly learned, after they were delivered, that the cover-art was where Universal's superiority ends. The Universal releases basically did not have any special feature except for a short interview with Sid and Marty Krofft at the end of Season 3.

Also, as if that wasn't enough, the menu interface was so bad and unfriendly that whoever designed it should probably be fired. The menu would have only three or two episode thumbnails on each menu page, and they were arranged in a way that made it difficult to move and highlight one episode to the next or to select the "more" link. The cases are also difficult to put back into the main case. After I received my Universal DVDs and discovered how bad they were, I did an online search (outside of Amazon) and finally found reviews telling me what I'm telling you now. I wouldn't recommend buying the Universal releases unless you're a major collector and want them for the cover-art or don't care for the special features the Rhino collection has. This is one of those rare cases when the newer release is not nearly as good as the older release. I hope this helps someone avoid making the same mistake I made. Hopefully, I will be able to sell my Universal releases (at a really low price) to someone who doesn't care about the differences. I have since bought season 2 and 3 from Rhino and enjoy them very much!

By the way, I was also profoundly disappointed in the new Land Of The Lost movie, starring Will Ferrell. I could have written a better script in my sleep, casted better actors more suitable for those characters, and directed a far better film, even though I've never directed a movie before in my life! Here's a clue to those who made that movie. The series has always been viewed by the original fans as creepy and scary! It was never meant to be turned into a comedy!

This review is from: Land of the Lost: Season 3 (DVD)
This 3rd and final season of Land of the Lost reminded me a lot of Gilligan's Island. Why? People just kept showing up every week our of the blue and Will, Holly and Uncle Jack just treated that as normal. They also never figured out how to get back home.

One of the Osmond brothers wrote the theme song for this season and it's horrible. They should have kept the original theme.

The guy that played Uncle Jack on this one was also the white dude on the Planet of the Apes t.v. show. On the DVD extras he said he liked the storylines in this show better than Planet of the Apes.

On Saturday mornings back in the day I don't think they ever showed much of season 3 in reruns.

If you have Season's 1 & 2 of Land of the Lost you should get season 3 because you have to complete your collection. You don't want people thinking your some kind of freak that just watches complete season's 1 & 2 of something and then just stops there!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Awesome Season!!!, August 20, 2009
This review is from: Land of the Lost: Season 3 (DVD)
After seeing the extremely awesome Land of the Lost movie, I decided to buy the complete set. This season was pretty good, but very different. Rick Marshall is transported back to Earth, the same time his brother Jack comes looking for them. Cha-Ka speaks English. Their home in the Land of the Lost is destroyed, and they are forced to find a new place to live. During the course of this season Will turns invisible, the Sleestak tamper with the sunlight, they meet Medusa, go aboard the Flying Dutchman, stop an Abominable Snowman, Cha-Ka turns evil, and much more! I highly recommend LAND OF THE LOST: THE COMPLETE THIRD SEASON!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Season 3 review, January 10, 2012

As with the other 2 seasons Land of the lost 3 still maintains what you would expect from this great show. With the new addition of uncle jack replacing dad and a new intro this is actually almost my favorite season. Some of the plots and stories suffer but more action and cool looking set pieces make up for it. There are also some interesting new characters introduced in this season. If you have the first 2 i would go ahead and complete the set with this 3rd and final season.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still enjoyable, although not the best, June 20, 2010
This review is from: Land of the Lost: Season 3 (DVD)
The third season of Land of the Lost doesn't have the great stories of the first two, but it is still quite enjoyable. There were many new guest stars and their characters seemed rather unreal, creating an atmosphere that did not work so well. If you can forgive the drop in quality of the stories you might even like this set, but if you don't want to spoil your fine memories of season one and two, you may want to bypass it. Or perhaps out of curiosity you will want to know what happened to the Marshalls after Rick was transported back into our world and Uncle Jack arrived to care for Will and Holly in the Land of the Lost. My rating of four stars might be a bit too generous (I would have given this set 3.8 stars if that were allowed). This DVD set is just as good as the other two in its picture and sound quality, which might make up for some of what the episodes lack. I found these final adventures were worth watching even though the first two seasons were far better with a lot more depth in the stories and much more believable fantasy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different Direction, June 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Land of the Lost: Season 3 (DVD)
Even though they went in a different direction with the story lines I still enjoyed them (a couple were a little hokey and many not as good a quality in the writing aspect as the 1st 2 seasons). I was a little disappointed though because I didn't remember what became of the Marshalls and still don't know...

It's too bad Spencer Milligan left the series. It's as if he took all that was special about it right along with him. How the Krofts could have let him go is beyond my understanding. They lost the "soul" of the show after that. However, if you're a land of the lost fan, you'll still enjoy seeing how the series ends. (though there is no real ending. I guess they thought they could go on. If they hadn't let go of Spencer Milligan, I bet they would have gone on for many more seasons.

As cheesy as it is, I really dig this show. Blame it on nostalgia or whatever but I remember watching this show as a kid and being amazed! :)
5 stars!

BTW: I hated the movie!
