From Booklist
As a reference tool, this title offers little beyond a filmography (mostly American films, with some foreign titles), a "Chronology of American Vietnam War Films 1948^-1993," and a bibliography. The main body of the work consists of critical essays grouped under four main themes: "The War Years," "The Vietnam Syndrome," "Recovery and Rehabilitation," and "The Land of Nam."
A much better choice as a reference tool is Viet Nam War Films [RBB S 1 94], which isn't even cited in The Land of Nam's bibliography. That work's filmography features more detail in the entries and a wider selection of titles, both by time period covered (1939^-92) and country of origin (not only the U.S., but Vietnam, France, Belgium, Australia, Hong Kong, South Africa, Great Britain, and more). Collections needing a reference work on films about the Vietnam War will do better to purchase Viet Nam War Films. Although the critical essays are interesting, The Land of Nam will be useful only in comprehensive collections.
