Book Description

According to readers, Land of the Noonday Sun is a sensual, though often heart wrenching, romantic-suspense novel with a bang-up mystery and a breathtaking backdrop of Nantahala, North Carolina.

When two strangers have nothing left but their dreams, they must forge a relationship in Nantahala, North Carolina, a small town known as Land of the Noonday Sun.

Cassandra is the beautiful, yet analytical daughter of a wealthy attorney. Destined to follow in her father's footsteps, her life of privilege suddenly shatters, and she finds herself with no home, career, or money. A glimmer of hope arrives in a letter from the grave promising a happier existence. Cassandra stands to inherit over half a million dollars if she can live in the sleepy little town of Nantahala for six months. Falling in love, however, was not part of the deal, and without warning, she finds herself fighting for two lives.

A man with a traumatic past is able to turn his life around and is happy with his chosen career as a whitewater guide. Everything changes though when fate hurls a woman into his path. His carefree life is in turmoil, and his former weaknesses threaten to overtake him. Will he be strong enough when tragedy strikes and is once again in danger of losing everything he loves?

Editorial Reviews

Review

"...emotional tale of mystery and suspense about flesh and blood, close relationships, bonds of love and breach of faith. -- Jeannie Walker - Award-winning Author of 'Fighting the Devil'

"What I liked about this book was that it wasn't the usual mystery, romance or suspense. It had all three but didn't follow expectations. I liked and cared about the characters." -- Jaime Rush - New York Times Bestselling Author of the Offspring Series

"Carmen DeSousa may be incapable of writing a hero that doesn't make me melt." -- wiLoveBooks - Book Reviews

From the Author

I characterize my stories as modern-day fairytales, as they overflow with romance, mystery, suspense, and of course, tragedy. After all, what would a fairytale be without a tragic event setting the stage? All of my novels are sensual, but not erotic, gripping but not graphic stories that will make you love, laugh, cry, gasp, and hope.

My first two novels, She Belongs to Me and Land of the Noonday Sun, have reached bestseller status right alongside Nicholas Sparks, J.D. Robb, and other great authors. My third novel, Entangled Dreams, released September 2012, and When Noonday Ends is now available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read! June 2, 2012
By Amy R
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoy Carmen's books. She has such interesting characters that have such real emotions. In this story the hero falls in love with the heroine the first time he meets her. We don't see that happen in real life all the time so it is refreshing to read that in a story. It allows the reader to be swept up in the love the hero and heroine have for one another. One of the things I liked about this story was the hero and heroin's openness with their faith. You don't see this often in romantic suspense books, so it was a very nice part of the story! The hero and heroine talked freely about their faith and we saw how they leaned on God for support and thanked Him for the blessings they received.

I thought Carmen did a great job setting up hero and heroine's lives before they met and during their first few months together. You really got to see what each of them dealt with in their childhood and how they found each other as adults. Carmen also did a wonderful job with the suspense portion of the book. She really made me think about "who did it." She had me thinking it was several different people. The person I thought did it at first was correct; however, she also had me believing it was someone else up until the very end. It was hard to put down until I got to the end.

This book has tragedy, romance, suspense, love, hope and faith! This story reminds us that we all have choices to make in life but that life is short so we should not waste time planning our exact future down to the detail, but make the most of the days you have with your loved ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your average mystery! June 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the second book I've read from Carmen, and I was very pleased. I fell in love with the characters, and enjoyed the budding romance with a twist. The twist to the suspense of the story captured me and the list of suspects kept me guessing till the end. And it still turned out different than what I'd expected! My hat is off to Carmen DeSousa for sharing another great read. If you haven't read her first novel, She Belongs To Me, you should. I like that each books' style of storytelling is different, bringing a fresh voice to the genre. No cookie cutter writing here! I can't wait to read her next book! Land of the Noonday Sun

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotionally captivating love story June 21, 2012
By April
Format:Kindle Edition
What I really have to say about this book is WOW! It has it all! Romance, suspense, mystery, tragedy, faith. The well developed characters, Chad and Cassie, had troubled lives growing up. Carmen started the emotional roller coaster early in the book, which gave me a strong connection with the characters. I was immediately sucked in, wanting to know how their lives would turn out, and Carmen had me shocked.

When Cassie's planned out life starts to fall apart, she learns that she is to inherit a large sum of money; however, there is a catch. She has to live and work in Nantahala, a small town in North Carolina, for six months. Just a small detour, right? Wrong. She falls in love with Chad who rose up from a horrible past. Chad falls crazy in love with Cassie and he was finally getting what he always wanted. Then tragedy strikes. My heart ached at the emotion portrayed by Carmen, which was so well written, along with Chad and Cassie's faith. Once again, Carmen kept me guessing and on edge. I didn't want the story to end because I got so attached to these characters. She did a wonderful job!

Another must read from Carmen DeSousa!
