Grade 7-10-- Spencer examines the history, geography, and people of Turkey. The volatile issues of Cyprus, the Armenians, and Turkey's relationship with the European community and the United States are also explored. Appendices provide descriptions of holidays, an audiovisual bibliography, and an index. Black-and-white photographs are clear and well captioned; information boxes are interspersed within the text and give interesting bits of Turkish history and culture. The book offers a wealth of information, and students will find it accessible, informative, and clear. The scholarship and organization make it an important companion to other books on Turkey that have more visual appeal because of their full-color photographs.
