LAND OF THE PERMANENT WAVE shows that Edwin Shrake deserves his reputation as SI's great "bonus" feature writer of the 60s and 70s. Pulling together the best of Shrake's SI pieces along with sections of his novels, letters to fellow literary Texans as Larry King,and parts of his screenplays, LAND gives the reader a true feel for Shrake's first person rebelliousness wrapped around a true gift for prose that never bores.

Bud Shrake is a great writer, and this is a sample of his work. An excellent book, particularly if you like Southwestern literature.
