5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable!, August 30, 2009
This review is from: In the Land of the Red Prince (Hardcover)
Cambodia, 1975. On Wikipedia, we read (excerpt) "The Khmer Rouge subjected Cambodia to a radical social reform process that was aimed at creating a purely agrarian-based Communist society. The city-dwellers were deported to the countryside, where they were combined with the local population and subjected to forced labor. About 1.5 million Cambodians are estimated to have died in waves of murder, torture, and starvation, aimed particularly at the educated and intellectual elite."

This book captured my thoughts well after I read it. This historical account is absolutely mind blowing. I have to admit that tears of anger rolled down my cheeks more than once. Sien Sam does a fantastic job grabbing us into the atrocious ambiance of those years, but he candidly offers us an honest look into his own soul. How he deals with the situations, and how this changes him, is in itself a good reason to get this book. I doubt many of you will be able to put the book down until the end. Then, sit back, breath, and have a drink.
