Delightful, masterful, harmonious, delicious Chris & Thomas!,

This review is from: Land of Sea (Audio CD)
Just last week, I discovered Chris & Thomas' music and new CD via a most serendipitous moment. My girlfriend and I had just bellied up to the bar at a hip new restaurant in Palo Alto, California, called Shokolaat (fabulous by the way, but I digress). A very fun group sat at a large family table nearby. They were having a great time, singing songs and laughing, and we couldn't help but notice how much fun they were having. A few minutes later, this group kindly invited us over to join them, so we did. We immediately liked this group and was made to feel like one of the family instantly. After introductions, sharing a glass of good cabernet and pastries, the patriarch of the group (Chris' father) mentioned that his son Chris was a musician. Seated there at the table, humbly acknowledging this fact was Chris himself, who was home for a family Thanksgiving, and over the course of the next hour, we were turned on to Chris & Thomas music (the restaurant was kind enough to play the entire disc for us over their music system as we sat there!)... What a great guy, and for those of you who haven't yet purchased this disc: You Must Get This CD! Chris & Thomas have created harmonies here that are of a quality and tonality rarely heard anymore. Simon and Garfunkel's voices blended well together, sure, and comparisons will definitely be made. But now it's Chris & Thomas' turn, and they've hit a home run here. If two sets of vocal chords were ever meant to create musical vibrations together, it's these guys, and their songs are absolutely lovely. The instrumentations are also very nice with their incorporation of guitars, mandolin, and even cello on occasion. "Land of Sea" by Chris & Thomas is a must-have CD for your collection. I can't wait to catch one of their Live shows too! Kudos, guys! (and thanks again for the pastries!) ;-)

With a soft but insistent tapping, Chris and Thomas whisper lyrics that tangle in your ears and require you to listen again. Adult thoughts presented with compassion and that much maligned word...beauty.

Somehow a Chris & Thomas song ended up on my ipod. With over 3000 songs on shuffle their song "Dreaming of Relief" kept on coming up over and over, what are the chances of that? It bore into me...who were these artists? I soon bought their album and absolutely fell in love with it. Rarely does an entire album capture me like this does. The harmonies are a rare gem. But it is the lyrics...I am known for preferring music without words, but C&T are true artists with the use of them. Their lyrics and voices add as much to the music as do their instrumentals. I can't wait for the next album!

I was lucky enough to discover Chris and Thomas through Pandora Radio. After hearing one of the cuts from this album I went on line immediately and purchased it. The harmonies are gorgeous; the guitar playing messmerizing and beautiful.

I first heard them on KCRW while I was driving and found myself repeating "CHRIS & THOMAS" like it was some sort of Mantra till I could get some place where I could write it down. Really beautiful singer/songwriter stuff that even after a few months I listen to regularly in the evenings interspersed with Guggenheim Grotto. Great work. The Simon Garfunkel analogy is a good one -though with more thoughtfulness than angst.

I Never Get Tired of This,

I first heard this album, before it was an album, when Chris and Thomas did a live set on KCRW. These are two very talented, modest, unassuming musicians who create work on a par with proven giants of the acoustic genre, like Simon & Garfunkel, Cat Stevens, and Neil Young. Chris and Thomas' lyrics never sink to cliche. Take These Thoughts, for example, has a depth and a darkness to it that you'd normally expect from someone like Robert Johnson. You can't go wrong with this CD.

This is one of my favorite albums from the last couple of years. Very strong harmonies and guitar play. I've played it repeatedly and it wears very well. I wish there was more available from this group.

fantastic harmonies,

This album is a recent find for me and has been in heavy rotation since purchasing it. The vocals of Chris and Thomas come together in such perfect harmony. Combine those beautiful harmonies with thoughtful lyrics and sparse, but not too sparse, instrumentation and you have one hell of an album. I read they opened for Alexi Murdoch at one point which sounds like a perfect musical pairing. As with many of this genre, the all to often made comparison to Nick Drake can also be made. However, I believe their harmonies set these guys apart from the typical singer/songwriter. This album really deserves a listen to fans of folk/ acoustic music.
