This review is from: From the Land of the Thunder Dragon: Textile Arts of Bhutan (Paperback)
This book catalogued the show at Salem's Peabody Essex Museum in 1994. It provides a very comprehensive study of textiles - a highly revered commodity - in Bhutan. Illustrations of every textile type, from wearables and costumes to rugs to thangkas, are of high quality. Excellent resource for weavers, dyers, and fiber artists in general, as well as theater.

I bought this book in Bhutan during a 2-week tour of that gracious little kingdom. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I am a weaver, and I found the details about the textiles of Bhutan so inspirational! But more than that, the story of weaving is woven beautifully into the context of the culture, religion and history of the place. Anyone going to Bhutan would do well to read this book before their trip.
